Why am I "The Hampshire Haystack"Well, I'm originallly from Southampton, Hampshire 9and nowadays live back there.) Back 25 years ago I used to referee football (soccer) at local parks level and was a member of my local London Referees Society. In those days I weighed aver 20 stone (280lbs)We played a match against another local Society and, in his match report next month the Mag Editor said "The Hampshire Haystack was there, acting as the main stand." The name stuck and for a long time I was known by that nickname in our circle, even though I actually slimmed down to 15.1/2 stone (220 lbs) - a weight I remain at 20+ years later.
