    Sad Sucks
Someone does something that hurts and so you feel sad.  When you feel sad people feel bad.  They don't like feeling bad so they don't like being around you and they drop you like a hot potato.  That feels bad and makes you sad...  and so it goes... and goes... and goes.... and goes... sooooo....   all that you can really do to end this endlessly sad and bad stream of emotions is to forgive as fast as you can just as soon as someone does something that hurts... and be glad that you have within you the power to do THAT.… [more]

  • Amy Had Her First Boy-(dash)-Friend Over Today

    Posted on: July 6th, 2010 at 6:05PM

I was taken back a little when Amy got dressed this morning. Jacob, from her third grade class last year, was finally going to come over today for a visit. In place of her usual stringy hair that I have to insist that she comb, she was wearing a cute little funky do copied from a teen magazine, and was dressed in her cutest outfit. The mysterious Jacob that I've been hearing so much about turned out to be a chubby little red haired fellow with the face of an angel and a shy disposition. Amy -- who is normally the holy terror of our neighborhood -- was acting sooooo sweet and polite and attentive to another person that I was like -- who are you and what have you done with my granddaughter… [more]

I'm pasting a new label on my jelly jar. I'm going to call it 'Happy'. I'm re-naming my bread as well. I'll call that 'Life'. I'm going to spread a little happy on my slice of life every morning and gulp it down -- with milk. .… [more]

  • Somewhere Way Down South In Texas

    Posted on: July 31st, 2010 at 7:02PM

Parts of the interstate were flooded and state troopers were turning all traffic around, so the personnel carrier that I'd been riding in from LaFayette, LA to some turn off for Victoria, TX dropped me off at a gas station in the middle of I don't even know where. Joey and Linda were only a few hours from where I'd been dropped and they knew some back roads that were still passable so they came to pick me up. It was September of 1998 and I was their new deckhand and this was my first hitch of my new job working on crew boats servicing oil rigs in the Gulf. Joey is my little brother and Linda is his wife. They are one of the very few husband and wife teams in the oil fields and I was a … [more]
