I Believe Everything Happens For a Reason

Lesson Learned Last year was a huge changing point in my life. At 49 I lost most of my eyesight to a medication reaction. One day I could see perfectly, three days later I was seeing very poorly and within a month I... [more]

Yesterday morning I received an unexpected call from a guide dog service. They had a dog for me. A Labradoodle and I am scheduled to begin my training in Ohio in a little over a week. The amazing part of all of this is that I wasn't expecting them to ever call me. I had placed an application with them months ago and was told that since I was requesting a special dog due to allergies the wait could be two years. You can imagine that a two year wait made my heart sink.I was so excited about the call that I didn't ask any questions about the dog. I have no idea what sex it is, color, name, nothing except the breed. After calming down and thinking about it I don't want to know. It like a pregnanc… [more]

  • Time Flies

My summer break from school has come to an abrupt but wonderful sudden halt. I was notifies last week that I have been approved for a guide dog and that I am scheduled for training this coming week in Ohio. That is wonderful, but  it also means that all those unfinished, "I'll do it tomorrow projects have to be completed before I leave. I have 3 days and a wake up to get it all done or hire someone to do it for me while I'm gone.My check list is getting smaller; Room painted, check (I had help). Furniture in new room dusted and room cleaned and organized is next chore.Wow time really does fly when your being lazy and procrastinate because its summer break for students. … [more]

  • Southern Storm

    Posted on: June 12th, 2012 at 7:50AM

Yesterday evening I was called by a friend who advised me to head to the storm shelter. Being visually impaired, I have storm spotters all over the area. I don't see well and generally need a few extra minutes to get outside and safely tucked away in the shelter. I grabbed shoes and a hat and headed to the shelter. On the way down I also grabbed my dog.  We sat inside listening to the wind blow and the rain hit the heavy metal door..Ping! Ping! Ping!, like a rapid fire machine gun. After the wind calmed we emerged to find limbs from my oak tree across the roof and one limb sticking straight out of the roof. The damage to my home and property was slight compared to several people in the nearby… [more]

  • Sitting on the Pity Pot

    Posted on: June 23rd, 2012 at 6:20AM

This morning I was awaken at 5 AM by my dogs barking in the back yard. I got up stumbled to the window to see what they were protecting me from. Of course it was still dark and I couldn't see anything even in broad daylight, but I had good intentions. Rather than crawling back into bed I made my coffee, fed the cats, and sat at the computer reading the world news.War and protests, famine and death, higher fuel prices, economic collapse. It was all there in black and white. Sad snippets of the worlds current state. I began thinking of all the bad the world is producing and how rotten life was. Within 10 minutes I realized I was in the beginning stages of a good old fashioned pity party. The w… [more]
