  • Driving thru the snow

    Posted on: February 20th, 2011 at 10:38AM

We don't get much snow here in SoCal.  This morning when I got up, I could feel it in the air.  The roads were dark, the sun still hours from rising, but the world was visible like a cloudy day.  As I neared the highway I could see small bit of slushy snow hitting the windshield.  "Ah, snow" says I, and put both hands on the wheel and slow down a bit.  I follow the track of the car in front of me.  Keeping my wheels in his track.  I can see that there are no tracks ahead of him.  As we exit on to the highway I pass him and get in the fast lane.  The road is mine.   There is just enough snow to notice now, built up a bit on the side of the road.  I can see the mountains all around the pass I … [more]

  • Imbolc

    Posted on: February 1st, 2011 at 1:10PM

February 2 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Imbolc (im-bulk), meaning "in the belly", is also known as Oiemelc or "ewes milk" and celebrates the first lactation of the ewes, siginifying the beginning of the lambing season and considered by ancient agrarian cultures as the first sign of the coming spring. This is the time of the year when our days are becoming visibly longer as the Sun spends more and more time in the sky, and the first faint touches of Spring's greenery begin to show. It is a time of beginnings, a time when the first fields are plowed and prepared for the planting. In many cultures this is also traditionally a time when signs… [more]

  • Had a feeling

We had planned to go to the desert and ride the quads this weekend.  I ended up having to work.  Sweety and my boy had the task of loading and reading the motorhome.  Lousy weather, rain and cold.  Off they went.  My son took a buddy with him. Driving home yesterday I spoke with her on the phone.  She said they were out riding.  I felt a premonition but thought it better to say nothing (seems that can actually make it worse if it is going to happen).  Little premonition about my son.Turns out at that very minute he took a jump badly on my quad and rolled it 3 times.  He went flying thru the air.  (he said it was cool for a few seconds until the earth cam up and smacked him).  Quad is pretty … [more]
