Japanese If You Please I had a friend about 18 years ago, a work colleague at the time who is now living in Sydney or so I believe, that loved Japanese cuisine.  In fact, she loved everything Japanese.  We would take... [more]

They say you have to have a degree in psychology to be a parent. I think it's so true. Wish I knew how to deal with my daughter's lack of enthusiasm for academia for instance. I don't want her to regret it later on but she won't be encouraged, pushed or coerced. Oh how I've tried in many ways to impart wisdom gained from years of struggling for self worth in a series of menial jobs. I know what you''re going to say: "Someone has to do those jobs, right?" Even so, they are not the jobs I hoped and dreamed that I would do. And life is just speeding by. Is it right to just sit by and do nothing, let the chips fall where they may? … [more]

  • Escapism

I like to read and watch DVDs. Just can't match what I get out of a book or movie in real life. It's kind of crazy but I just can't seem to change my ways. I've started to do a little running with the dog, something I got into in a big way 10 years ago but abandoned when life got busier. Yes, I know that life is what you make it and I kind of feel like a loser for not making my life more interesting. After all, the experiences of characters in a book are not always just imagined. Sometimes you get some good stuff out of TV, like Heston's Feasts. It's a ripper British cooking show. Not that I'm a cook but he's absolutely fascinating, the way he researches obscure foods and coo… [more]
