I Want to Do a Cultural Exchange

Chinese Education, USA Education, And the Possibility of Averting A 2019 Climate Change Disaster In The USA through Cultural Exchange I wanted to engage in cultural exchange regarding world issues such as climate change, and have succeeded in doing so in an international chat room. International agreements often explicitly protect... [more]

  • Thoughts on the faint young sun paradox for the planet Mars. (2014.04.09)

    Posted on: April 9th, 2014 at 8:16AM

It can be seen from satellite photographs that the planet Mars once had substantial water erosion. Yet now Mars is a permafrost planet, and is so cold at the poles that much of the CO2 is trapped there in the form of dry ice. However, as one goes back in geological time about 3 billion years, the planet Mars presumably had a lower climate flux due to a dimmer sun, a climate flux of about 77 watts per square meter as compared to a modern climate flux of about 110.2 watts per square meter. Such a low climate flux of 77 watts per square meter would lead to a Stefan-Boltzmann temperature of about 194 Kelvin (-78 Celsius). It must be then that Mars somehow had an atmosphere thicker during that an… [more]

  • Increase in the mass of nitrogen in Earth's atmosphere during the 3rd millenium due to global warming. (2014.04.17)

    Posted on: April 17th, 2014 at 11:52AM

Nitrogen will increase its partial pressure in Earth's atmosphere, mainly due to the release of dissolved nitrogen by warming oceans. To begin with, let's look at a chart of the components of Earth's atmosphere at the beginning of the 3rd millenium, expressed in partial pressure in pascals at sea level in such a way as to add up to the usual 101,325 pascals and in such a way that those components reflect their average presence in Earth's atmosphere in terms of kilogram moles in the very early 21st Century. N2      78805 pascals O2      21133 pascals Ar        942 pascals H2O       402 pascals CO2        41 pascals Ne         2 pascals The dirivation for the average of 402 pascals for H2O sta… [more]

  • A projection of June 17 for a 11 million square kilometer melt date for 2014 Arctic sea ice extent, as opposed to the climate change denier view. (2014.04.15)

    Posted on: April 15th, 2014 at 3:33PM

There is a contrast between science and the global warming denier viewpoint. For example, global warming deniers will argue that global warming has not been taking place recently other than for natural cycles, while science argues otherwise. The global warming denier natural cycle viewpoint means for example that the last day in 2014 for the Arctic sea ice extent to be at least 11 million square kilometers will fit the supposedly unchanged pattern that was typical 21 years ago (21 years being one solar magnetic cycle, otherwise known as a Hale cycle) and will therefore be between June 26 and July 09, the range of dates given by the 1990 through 1996 melt seasons. Part of the strength of scie… [more]

  • New global warming book title,

    Posted on: June 13th, 2014 at 10:27PM

A book to be released for sale in 2014 July, "The Collapse of Western Civilization: A View from the Future", written by historians Naomi Oreskes and Erik Conway, imagines a Chinese researcher in the year 2393 analysing the disintegration of 21st Century Western democracies due to their failure to give great importance to the climate change issue. Oreskes and Conway envision Western countries that maintain a ruse of being supposedly democratic while imprisoning people who cry out scientific truth regarding the reality of global warming. See http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2014/jun/13/climate-change-historians-will-look-back-and-ask-why-didnt-they-act for more book details.… [more]
