The perks of being adopted: Good house, clothes, food, and life.Consequences: A bit of loneliness, strong opinions,  lots of daydreams, and tons of questions. My mother got annoyed with me this past fall break. Well...I think pissed is the more appropriate term. Anyway, we were arguing, and I said something about not caring about my actions. (Yes, I know, stupid thing to say, and not entirely true. I do care. Just not when she's pestering me about it.) Then, she delivers the death blow. "You know, your birth mother was dyslexic, and had a lot of learning disabilities. When you were little, we watched for those. When it became obvious that you were more like your birth father, I had hoped that… [more]

  • Sometimes it's just meant for you.

    Posted on: September 27th, 2011 at 11:45PM

You know when you read a quote, listen to a song, or see something that seems like it's perfectly meant for you? Well, as I was staying up late reading tonight, I came across this poem by Charles Dickens. It was beautiful. So here it is, for all to enjoy. The pure, the bright, the beautifulthat stirred our hearts in youth,The impulses to wordless prayer,The streams of love and truth,The longing after something lost,The spirit's yearning cry,The striving after better hopes -These things can never die.The timid hand stretched forth to aidA brother in his need;A kindly word in grief's dark hourThat proves a friend indeed; The plea for mercy softly breathed,When justice threatens high,The sorrow o… [more]

  • Suits and Ties

    Posted on: August 28th, 2012 at 6:18PM

Today was Tasteful Tuesday.   In other words, everyone in my AP English class dressed up nicely; skirts and blouses/dresses for the girls, suits and ties for the guys.  And you know what? I really like having guys around that wear suits and ties. I find it extremely attractive. Maybe it's the symbolism of power that the suit and tie gives, the assumed control. Maybe it's the asurance of a well-paying job. Maybe it's the honor and respect that goes along with the outfit. Maybe it's the security and confidence that the suit brings on.  Whatever it is, I'm a sucker for it.I think that part of it is a woman's intuition - those who dress like that have respect for themselves (most of the time) an… [more]

  • Final Words, TinTin, and Fedoras

    Posted on: March 15th, 2012 at 7:31PM

I watched The Adventures of TinTin today. Man, I love that show. It's pretty much a cross between Indiana Jones and The Hardy Boys, and really, that was a brilliant idea. I love the character of TinTin. Honest, brave, intelligent, quick on his feet, full of adventure, calm, collected....Yeah. I could do with a guy like him. And, I want to become the girl that a guy like that could want.  Okay, so this guy I really like showed up to school today in a button up shirt, tie, and fedora. I almost went weak at the knees. You know that song "Sharp Dressed Man"? Yeah. It doesn't lie. I really do fall instantly for a guy in a tie. So anyway, I've been trying to fight my feelings for the guy becaus… [more]
