  • i do not really know what to write on a blog...

    Posted on: November 21st, 2010 at 4:03PM

and it still somewhat bothers me that the word blog sounds a little icky. i really have been putting off scanning images of my artwork and posting it, i have tons of stuff i have finished but posted only like one thing in the last six months. *yawn* it is a pain, is why. have to get lighting set up right, then take a bunch of pics, upload them to the pc so i can really see what they look like, sometimes have to take more, then crop and edit, and all that. it is a pain. i ate way too much food today. made spaghetti, the little tiny rotini, picciolini i think they are called. they were good but just a bit too small. always eat way too much when i make spaghetti, i just love to shovel … [more]

  • on the dirty nature of war, and public opinion...

    Posted on: November 27th, 2010 at 7:27PM

wars are fought for a variety of reasons, but rarely are these the subject of much public discussion at the time the war is fought. answers may come out decades or centuries later, if at all? why? war requires the support of the public, who must believe in the cause in order to continue to volunteer their lives and their money to fight the war. people do not like to think of themselves as machiavellian, but to use a military effectively, to govern a state effectively perhaps, one must be somewhat machiavellian. thus pretenses are made for war which makes them sound appealing to the public. do not believe it? well, you are not supposed to. the pretense is made well enough that you ca… [more]

  • DaVinci Last Supper

    Posted on: December 3rd, 2010 at 8:03PM

I have been geeking out and websurfing around art sites today. First I was reading reviews of various types of oil paints. I got some in the mail and was curious to see how they are reviewed. Then looking at some other stuff, yadda yadda. Finally looking at DaVinci s Last Supper again... There are several places where you can buy painted reproductions of this and other famous works of art, for a pittance (seems like, considering it is a fair bit of work even to reproduce such a painting... though I have heard the people who do these just do the same one over and over again and get very fast at it). Looked at some reproductions, then at the original. The original is way better, despite… [more]

  • thoughts for today, way of the warrior etc.

thinking about the nature of conflict, and of warriors. watched a couple of bruce lee movies, much more interesting now that i am older, i see more subtle detail than just the fighting that i saw when i was younger and watched them. the greatest test of a warrior is not in conquest, or self defense, but rather in the defense of another. this is why parenthood is good training. also reached this idea from playing a fighter character in a lot of role playing games. frequently the main role of the fighter is to be the defender of the party rather than a character who does much offensive damage. those sprite mages can only take one hit so you have to, you need them to stay alive so they ca… [more]
