I've been watching videos of ferrets on YouTube.

They are so cute. They are so squeaky. They are so awesome.

I WANT ONE.

I have 4 ferrets and they are all super sweet. They are entertaining and form an amazing bond with you. You will rarely get a "mean" one and thats usually only if they are mistreated. One of mine is adopted and he was in an abusive home so I have been training him that humans are not enemies and he is doing fantastic. He used to bite all the time and its been months since he bit me now that he knows I am on his side. They are very resilient. They do take alot of care though. Unless you have a super safe home with no way for them to escape outside and nothing for them to get hurt or caught in you would typically buy them a cage but it needs to be big enough for them to have a lot of room. They need play time out of the cage every day with you in a safe area. They need constant access to food and water because they digest food fast, nails need to be kept trimmed, need vaccinations, plenty of ferret safe toys and bedding, and LOTS of love. They go potty alot so their litter needs to be cleaned very frequently. I am not trying to scare you off, just want to be informative since so many people get them and find out its too much work and then dont know what to do with them. They are prone to a few diseases as well that have to be watched for as they age so you need a vet trained to care for them. If you think you can afford and handle all that it is most definitely worth it, mine cheer me up every time I see them. You can usually find them at Petco or pet stores, however, I am a fan of adopting them from a shelter and giving the less fortunate a good home. They usually have young ones or very docile ones perfect for new "parents." Also, yes they do have a distinct smell, but if you keep their cage/bedding/areas clean and bathe them about once a month or so that cuts down the smell alot. They also offer spray that you can brush into their coat daily to keep them smelling nice. If you have any questions feel free to ask, I have no problem answering anything that may help you.

You really do have to ferret proof your home. They're ten times worse than little kids. Mostly because they're more persistent. There's been several times when I've opened the silverware drawer to find a ferret head pop up and look at me like hey, I was sleeping! They are hilarious animals and never ending fun when they're awake, which is only like four hours a day. I would recommend not having carpet though, they don't always make the litter box. Some are better than others but still. Mine got along great with dogs and cats. The border collie would try to herd it and he'd snap and the dog. The smell is something I got used to. You can bathe them and they'll be good fr 4-6 days. Watch after the bath though, they go wild, which is good for a few laughs. I want another one, but we will see.
