You know, I am an atheist. that does not mean I believe there is no God, I just do do not believe in a God. It is not a positive belief like many people think. It's like a court case. You don't vote guilty or innocent. You vote guilty or not guilty. Innocent does not come into play.

When something is unclear we need to look objectively at it. There is evidence, there are experts. witnesses, etc. But sometimes as convincing as the case may be on the surface, it could be unclear a little deeper. Sometimes you just don't know what to think. You don't want to believe the party is guilty but the story was inconsistent and muddy. Sometimes it can sound like a lie when it isn't. Sometimes I suppose maybe some people cannot communicate as well as others.

In cases like this you don't quite know what to think. Even if you have two witnesses who agree on the evidence the strength of the case is pretty strong. But that's not all the evidence. There are other pieces unavailable to us.

When you honestly don't know what to think, when there's not enough evidence to support either side, even though you think the case may be strong...

You ultimately have to go not guilty. As hard as it may be to know the truth, you just have to say not guilty.

maybe you should go back and rethink your stance on being atheist as its a denial or disbelief in a supreme being, and if someone is not guilty that means their innocent or else they would be guilty i am just finding it hard to see how any of this can hold water.

I think you misunderstand two things. One- this is not about atheism. That was an analogy. Two- atheism is, as I explained, NOT a positive belief. At all. Just not. All it is is saying there is not enough evidence to justify a positive belief claim. You may think that's "agnostic" but it is not. Also, just because you are not able to justify a guilty vote does not necessarily mean the accused is innocent. Do you believe OJ Simpson was innocent? Robert Blake? Casey Anthony?

Well look at you! You finally wrote something! I am oh so excited and oddly proud of you. (That's kind of an odd thing to say and feel now isn't it)? I do like your writing style and I understand the analogy part! (Guess because I am a genius like that - yeah right). True that some people do not communicate well, forcing their "stories" to not add up. Does it mean they are being less than honest? Not necessarily! Slipery slope eh?!

Keep up the writing please! You are quite bright and you ROCK!!!!!!!!! XOXO

Thanks. Yeah, I they were just acting sketchy. I think they just don't communicate very well and maybe the inconsistency was the result of that. I'm honestly not sure, though. Honestly, I'm not.

this clarified atheism a bit more for me.. I always thought it meant u didn't believe in anything.. I just thought it was like.. we live, we die, we rot.. end of story lol.. sometimes we just got to accept that we don't quite understand everything and u just gotta go with the flow and hope everything works out. I hope u keep writing as well (:

Thanks. I might. I just got a request for more. And a young lass PM'ed me asking for tips. I have been taught the basics and I do know how to critique something amateur, but not pro and I don't have more than high school and a little personal training.
