Truly happy?

I don't think I've ever been truly happy. I've had happy times, moments when I was happy. But happiness as a long term-state is nothing I have ever experienced. I'm generally tormented. Certain things give me a sense of elation. Listening to Beethoven gives me a sense of elation. Going to the beach in Atlantic City gives me elation. Bonding with my imaginary friends gives me elation. Having insights gives me a sense of elation. But elation for me exists in sporadic moments in a sea of emotional desolation.

I'm not sure that everlasting happiness exists. There is only the persuit of happiness.
