    If you see no future, and in present you are but waiting to die, living in the past can get you over the bump so you don't take an active role in your present and encourage death prematurely. Sometimes I need the past. And sometimes I run from it. None of these are healthy, I know, but sometimes are crucial to my survival.

    I understand what you mean. One can reflect back on their earlier years for strength and for future obstacles. I don't think one should completely forget their past, but learn and move on from it.
