To dream of relationships means An aspect is a symbol representing a particular side of the dreamer and is usually both the dreamer (in the dream) and whatever or whomever else the dreamer is associating with. If the aspect is a figure familiar to the dreamer, it may represent a quality the dreamer has assigned to this person in waking life, commonly having to do with his or her name, trade or profession, or it could possibly be a personality trait. A relative symbolizes something in “relationship” to the dreamer and does not necessarily signify a particular relative, but rather a “family” matter or in some cases a business or professional matter as in a student/teacher relationship, but this will usually be made clear in the dream. That’s why symbols should not be interpreted unilaterally by taking them out of the context of the dream and simply using a dream dictionary. We must keep in mind that most symbols portray a certain side of us, a side that takes on a life of its own in a dream, often personifying our feelings in keeping with the roles we play in our everyday lives and the resultant effect they have upon the lives of others; these areas where we live out our dramas can be likened to little theaters, each with its own stage. In one theater we play out our role in a parent/child relationship, in another, an employer/employee relationship, while yet another portrays our love relationship. A relationship is even possible with something as general as a project or undertaking. Any particular activity can appear as a character in our dream, personifying our feelings connected to that activity. It appears difficult for those attempting to understand dreams to grasp that when we dream about someone we are related to or in a relationship with, it is our feelings that are being played out in the dream rather than that of the other person or persons. One of the key elements to look for is emotion, love, anger, jealousy, fear and so on. Even though in the dream it may appear to be coming from the other person, it most likely originates from the dreamer. Jealousy is a common theme in relationship dreams. For example, if you dream of your spouse cheating on you the first question you should ask yourself is what are you cheating your spouse out of? A different example of cheating takes place when the dreamer dreams of making love to another person when in fact; they are dreaming of making love to the person they originally married who in the dream is portrayed as a different person. It is distinguishing how things have changed within the relationship between then and now. If a parental figure exhibits displeasure in a dream it is the dreamer not the parent who is displeased. The parent is the personification of the qualities instilled in the dreamer’s upbringing regarding certain standards he or she feels not to have met. Dreams of ex-partners when in another relationship are also commonplace and while they can sometimes signify displacement, more often there is an association made by similarities. This is made not so much by behavioral similarities, but by circumstances such as a development within the relationship similar to one past that resulted in a pleasant or unpleasant experience.
