Dreams can provide insight into our deepest thoughts. Using dream interpretation to explore dream symbols and uncover a dream's meaning can lead to a better understanding of ourselves.
| It's been so many years since I've had this dream that I could never tell you the exact day I had it, but for some reason it has always been stuck in my mind so clearly. Even though it would seem to be a bad dream, there was actually nothing about it that bothered me and in fact when I woke up I was slightly dissapointed because the thrill of living it slipped away. Not that I wish for that dream to come true, but it got my heart racing and my adrenaline pumping and I somewhat never wanted to wake-up and I just wanted to continue dreaming until I reached the women at the end of the tunnel.
If you have ever seen the Terminator 2, imagine the lava at the very end of the movie he melts in. Now think of it as a rectangular concrete 20X15 yard swimming pool filled with that lava. Concrete surrounds the pool making it impossible to get out unless you make it to the stairs.
My mother, brother, and I had taken the buick into this forsaken place. Strangely my father was absent from the dream and it seemed I didn't have one. We parked the Buick close to the edge of the concrete pool, but not so that it was teetering on the edge. We were all dressed in regular casual clothes and suddenly my mother wanted to for a swim and asked me to come with her. My brother refused to go and leaned the passenger seat back and turned up the radio.
The air around us was comfortable. The intense heat that was expected was non-exisistent. My mother and me gave no thought to the lava as we slowly made are way into it and began wading through it like water. It didn't blister or melt our skin away, but it soothed it down to the core and moved like silk around our bodies. The moment was perfect even in such a strange place, but then I saw the skeleton...
My eyes were attracted to it as it floated in the corner of the pool, using the concrete wall to seemingly stand on its own. Though there was no way to identify the corpse, I knew who it was with one glance...my grandmother. The mood shifted from there and I felt the impending doom weighing down on me. I turned to my mother who seemed completely obliviously to the corpse and the lava begginnig to warm around us.
I told her we should get out and I began making my way back to the stairs. As I flowed through the water the heat of the lava grew more intense and I warned my mother to get out. She refused...seeming to be lost in a trance that would only lead her to death. Just like that it was over the lava took its natural heat and only her charred bones remained, which immediatly were swallowed by the pool of orange.
I ran...that's all I could do. The thought didn't even cross my mind to run to my brother, but instead to the woman standing at the doorway that lead into a dark hallway. She was wearing a Green Park Ranger uniform and she had blonde hair pulled back in a tight bun with Park Ranger hat on. I ran to her and begged her to be my new mother, I screamed, I cryed, and I pleaded...but...she refused me. She took of down the concrete tunnel and I chased after her, running as fast as my legs would allow. Along the way I passed by my older cousin who was playing the Nintendo 64. As soon as he saw me he clicked the TV off and began to chase me. He yelled at me to tell him what was worng as I continued to sprint down the dark tunnel chasing after woman I wished to call mother. I lost her in the darkness and I could only see a small light...and then I woke up.
Many reasons could have caused this dream. At the time I was young and my grandmother was being treated for a brain anuerism and I had just watched the Terminator 2 and spent time with my cousins. Just a normal dream like anyother. Sure there could have been a deeper meaning behind it, but back then I never really thought much of it and now that I do maybe I was worried about what would happen in my life at that time. I don't know why it has stuck with me, but its been etched in my mind to the point where it will never be erased... |
