|  This is the second of three dreams I had last night. In the dream, a man is walking through the woods along a muddy path. He comes across a small wooden platform at the edge of a lake. There is another man stood there, who informs him that the only way across is to swim. So, the man in the dream runs and jumps off the edge, swims to the far side of the lake (passing another wooden platform with a hut on it on the other side) and climbs out.
On this side, there is a small camp set into the cliff face, with people living there. The man enters a small room and sees a woman in there with her pet dog. He leaves the camp and returns across the lake.
Once back on the path, he notices a large gold coin on the ground. Well, "coin" is too fancy a term. It was more like a rough pebble of gold. He looks around and sees more of them, all in a line along the path. He picks them up and fills his pockets with about 10-12 of the pebbles. As he does this, a small girl skips by. She holds a basket of the gold pebbles and is throwing them along the path as she skips and sings.
The man ponders on this for a while, before he remembers an old legend. The girl is the daughter (or adopted daughter) of a mighty demon said to live in a mighty castle. Every day, the girl, innocent to the greed in the world and naive to the value of gold, takes a basket of gold out to decorate the forests, because it sparkles in the sunlight. Sure enough, when the man investigates, he finds there are more gold pebbles trodden into the dirt over time.
However, the man also recalls the legend saying that a traveller had once followed the girl in the hopes of finding infinite wealth, and he had been cruelly murdered by the demon upon arrival at the castle. The man decides not to be greedy, and settles for the gold he has already found.
Keen to show off his wealth, he returns to the platform edge, where three men who work in the camp are now stood in the water, looking for something. The man grins broadly and gets their attention, holding one of the pebbles aloft and throwing it into the water, claiming it is "payment for crossing the fjord." The three men in the water scramble about in search of the pebble, but the mud makes it impossible the see.
The other man who stands on the platform sees that the main character's pockets are filled iwth gold. Full of desire for this wealth, he pulls out a gun and starts shooting at him. Fearing for his life, the man runs and jumps off the platform, seeking the safety of the camp on the other side. He swims a few feet before the gold in his pockets becomes to heavy. It pulls him down, making it impossible to swim very far. By now the man on the platform has yelled to the other platform that they must stop the man and take the gold. The main character somehow reaches the other platform with the hut and pulls himself up. There are 5 or 6 men there, who all draw guns and begin shooting. The man takes cover behind a car, and when he finds the chance, he flees into the cliff face camp. Seeking sanctuary desperately, he bursts into the room he had entered earlier, only to find that both the woman and the dog have been shot dead in the skirmish. |
