I’m so hoping someone can help me with this as it’s driving me crazy.

This is the third time I’ve had this dream, or should I say experience now. It normally starts with me being aware in the dream, and this can be anything I’m dreaming about, that there is some kind of entity close to me. All of a sudden I feel this horrible dark energy on top of me holding me down and suffocating me. I am absolutely terrified, and that’s putting it mildly. Somehow I instinctively know to say the Lord’s Prayer, although I can hardly get the words out of my mouth. It’s such a huge struggle, like I’m losing my life force. I get to about the third or fourth line of the Lord’s Prayer and the entity eventually breaks away. This is something it does with great anger and I feel the force of this. The last time this happened, which was 2 weekends ago, I actually felt the bed move as it jumped off of me. It also made a kind of growling noise and knows it was greatly angered by not being “successful” in its attempt to take my “soul” away. I know by this time I’m most definitely awake as I clearly see the bottom of my bed bounce. I can’t say this strongly enough – I’m absolutely terrified! I immediately get out of bed and go through to my daughter’s room and get in beside her for comfort.

I had a previous one before this and the same thing happened, but that time I couldn’t even move. I managed to screech a low whisper out for my daughter to help me, which she only just heard and came through running. She said she had woken up suddenly feeling that there was something wrong and then just a few seconds after that she heard me whimpering. That one was as terrifying as this one. I go to bed most nights scared to death. I end up leaving the light on all night. I haven’t had one since but feel that there is something in my home most for the time.

Can someone help me or point me in the right direction for help.

Thank you.

that sounds alot like a SUCCUBUS to me my husband had the same experience so we had done some research

In folklore traced back to medieval legend, a succubus (plural succubi ) is a female demon appearing in dreams who takes the form of a human woman in order to seduce men, usually through sexual intercourse. In modern times, a succubus may or may not appear in dreams and is often depicted as a highly attractive seductress or enchantress, while in the past succubi were generally depicted as frightening and demonic. The male counterpart is the incubus. Religious traditions hold that repeated intercourse with an incubus or succubus may result in the deterioration of health, or even death.

Similar to a vampire, succubi also known as Lilith and the Lilin (Jewish) and Belili (Sumerian) draw energy from men to sustain themselves.

Etymology The word is derived from Late Latin succuba "strumpet" (from succubare "to lie under", from sub- "under" and cubare "to lie"), used to describe the supernatural being as well. It is first attested from 1387.

In folklore According to Zohar and the Alphabet of Ben Sira, Lilith was Adam's first wife who later became a succubus. She left Adam and refused to return to the Garden of Eden after she mated with archangel Samael. In Zoharistic Kabbalah, there were four succubi who mated with archangel Samael. They were four original queens of the demons Lilith, Agrat Bat Mahlat, Naamah, and Eisheth Zenunim. In later folklore, a succubus took the form of a siren.

Throughout history, priests and rabbis including Hanina Ben Dosa and Abaye, tried to curb the power of succubi over humans.

Not all succubi were malevolent. According to Walter Mapes in De Nugis Curialium (Trifles of Courtiers), Pope Sylvester II (999–1003) was involved with a succubus named Meridiana , who helped him achieve his high rank in the Catholic Church. Before his death, he confessed of his sins and died repentant.

Names of known succubi
* Agrat Bat Mahlat
* Eisheth Zenunim
* Lilith
* Meridiana
* Naamah
Ability to reproduce According to the Kabbalah and the school of Rashba, the original three queens of the demons, Agrat Bat Mahlat, Naamah, and Eisheth Zenunim and all their cohorts give birth to children, except Lilith. According to other legends, the children of Lilith are called Lilin.

According to the Malleus Maleficarum, or "Witches' Hammer", written by Heinrich Kramer (Insitoris) in 1486, a succubus collects ***** from the men she seduces. The incubi or male demons then use the ***** to impregnate human females, thus explaining how demons could apparently sire children despite the traditional belief that they were incapable of reproduction. Children so begotten – cambions – were supposed to be those that were born deformed, or more susceptible to supernatural influences. The book does not address why a human female impregnated with the ***** of a human male would not produce a regular human offspring.

I have had this dream many times, for well over a decade...In my dream I am always in a really old house (the bedroom changes every time, however it is ALWAYS a REALLY old house). Im asleep on my back when the door opens, but I cant see anyone that or i see a darkness... Then I feel a force climb on top of me holding down both of my arms and pressing on my body..When i first started having this dream i would try to pray but words would not come out as I felt I was being choked...Ever since then when the dream happened I would say "Show yourself" or "show me your face" and yet I would see nothing but darkness. I would feel as if the life was being sucked out of me and would awaken hysterical, and most often sweaty from the struggle...This dream has happened so many times I cant even count, leaving me terrified of the darkness. Eventually I grew angry...and wanted to fight back (even though I felt I was doing all I could during the attacks) My fear turned to anger towards this dark force which freely fed upon my energy or life source. I repeatedly told myself I would defeat this. I grew up in the church and I knew all the things i was suppose to say, but I felt as if the entity had the power to jumble my thoughts, as well as completely muffle my voice. After experiencing this for years, you can sense or feel it coming on in your sleep. It loses its ability to surprise attack you. One night, in my sleep, I sensed it, sat up, saw a dark figure morphing through the wall. In my dream, I sprang up out of the bed while it was coming through the wall, and began attacking it with everything that i had. I kicked, I screamed, I hit and unleashed all my fury on it..there was no fear only a triumphant feeling.. I grabbed its core and squeezed as hard as I could until I saw the darkness start to disintegrate...I have never felt so alive in my entire life. I havent had the dream since. I honestly believe we have the ability to fight back, it is the fear that paralyzes us. It feeds on fear. Once you admit to yourself that this is happening and that you can fight back you have already won the battle, you just have to follow through. I hope that this can help someone out there having similar dreams. I struggled with this for years and finally feel free. My dreams still contain demons or entities but its different now.
God bless.
Also, Id like to say, I am a religious person and I have accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior many years ago. I dont believe this completely protects you from experiencing an attack, but I do believe it will help end them....I never tried wearing a cross, but now that Im thinking about it, I would def try it...

@sarahmusic- I was 19 when it first happened to me and its funny because I had just gotten baptized and it confused me for the longest time. I finally asked some pastors and friends and family but the only people that could help me were several different pastors. They all told me the same thing. Something (a spirit, an evil spirit) was trying to enter into my bf's body but couldn't enter him because I was holding him, so it screamed in my face because it was angry. It couldn't enter because I was saved, I had the protection from God. I was also pregnant at the time, and God protects his children always. Idk.. you can take what i've said or leave it, but its true. I mean to me it made sense and it didn't bother me any more until recently but I was also not staying close to God there for a little while. I mean if everyone is gonna be open minded to other stuff why can't anyone be open minded to saying a simple prayer to jesus. I mean its not gonna hurt you, or cost you anything. I mean really ppl?!! If it doesn't work then okay, but if your willing to see groups, or do some cleansings or whatever, or fight when your half asleep..then why not do something thats so simple?? Just pray.

This has been happening to me ever since I was a teen. Usually I feel it coming on and I just submit to it and let it do what it wants until it leaves. It all happens EXACTLY as you described it. I'd call it an attack but I don't think it's so much to kill you. It's more a stealing of an energy or some of your life-force. I can feel something leaving me. I usually see the dark figure or several dark figures. Unless you've experienced it, you can't understand how we KNOW it isn't merely a dream. We sense the evil. For whatever reason, last night I fought back for the first time in a long while and it was pissed off. The experience lasted a good while and I was terrified/exhausted when it was over. Usually I'm not even a little scared as I've grown...accustomed to it. But right now man, I'm a grown man sleeping with the lights on. Anyway, it did start coming to a close when I started praying the Our Father. I'm praying it doesn't happen again tonight.

This is a WARNING. You are being attacked by demonic entities. They can only do this if they have a legal spiritual right to do so. You need to get educated quickly.
Do you know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior? If so, please give the date as to when He became your Lord and Savior.
Do you have any occult articles in your home, specifically your bedroom. This includes video games, music, pictures.
When did this start? What happend just prior to the beginning of these demonic visitaitons?
Have you been out of the country and if so, did you bring home souveniers?
This thing is set to destroy you. Before sleeping, ask God to surround you with His angels of protection.
If Jesus is not yet your Lord and Savior, I suggest you submit to Him as HE and HE ONLY can SAVE you.
I'd gladly give you my email address, but the site won't allow it.
Let me know if I can help further

I had a dream last night like this. I was paralized, which doesn't really impress me because I know about sleep paralysis, what was strange is the feeling that I was being pressed upon by something dark. I didn't see anything, or hear anything, I just felt terror. I tried to wake myself up, and for some reason I started to pray. When I prayed, I immediately awoke. I smelled sulfur. The 'dream' was impressive enough for me to google it and find this site just to see if anyone else experienced it. I feel it was a demonic attack.

I'm so glad I grew up in a era before the Internet and had to tell my parents about my experiences when I was a kid instead of letting myself be terrorized by some of you guys. I've suffered from this horrific occurrence all my life and it hadn't happened in a while before this past week, when a combination of stress and falling asleep on my back brought it back on. I know it feels like so much more than just sleep paralysis but it is just that, so stop scaring people who are just experiencing it for the first time into believing they're battling for their very soul. I can't believe someone mentioned their pastor even affirmed this notion. Very irresponsible. That pastor should not be practicing today.
When I was a small child, it happened to me in the form of a witch who would hang on my ceiling and throw spiderwebs on me, pinning me to the bed, then a skeleton that would sneak up under my covers and pin me down. That's all my 3 or 4 year old imagination could conjure.
I still pick on my dad for telling me "don't sleep on your back and they can't get you" instead of actually dispelling the horrors my mind created. Then, as a teen, I liked falling asleep in front of my stereo with headphones on and unfortunately, this brought it on with the added effect of actually feeling the hands holding my head to the pillow. I remember more than once, speaking out, saying: "what do you want with me?" It's a helpless and violating experience but a natural one all the same. Your conscious is coming to slightly before the rest of your body and your mind, in a panic, creates the horror that ensues. I know it feels like more than that. It happens to me sometimes when I'm NOT sleeping on my back and that really squashes my defenses that have always held up. Even though I know what it is now, every time it happens my mind is totally immersed in the experience and I wake from it shaken and disturbed. I'm usually scared to go back to sleep in fear that it will take me again.
My point is, you are not alone. It's a horrible experience but it is also a HUMAN experience. Do some research. The more you understand it the less frightened you will be. I live in South Louisiana and there's an old folk tale here about the "Coushma" (that may be spelled wrong, I've never tried writing it. Phonetically, it's KOOSH-MAH) an old witch that would pull kids' from their beds by the toes and when you had sleep paralysis that was her trying to take you from your bed. Other cultures made up other stories and of course, the religious implications we all see in this thread play right into it.
I'm not saying religion is wrong, just that this isn't a case of possession or succubus or the devil. Still pray, just maybe ask God to help you through this troubling experience. Your very soul is not in danger.
Also, you folks that are perpetuating people's fears by confirming them... shame on you. If I'd have come to you instead of my father when I first started having sleep paralysis, I'd be a superstitious wreck, blaming all my real world problems on demons and succubai and other imaginary devices instead of doing the research and handling my problems like a real human being. Take some responsibility for your life and quit scaring people with your nonsense.
Thanks guys, sorry if I offended anyone. I understand the horrors of this occurance and was really bothered by the way people were perpetuating the horrors of it instead of trying to help.

My best friend confided in me a recurring dream that sounds almost exactly like this. I joined this site just to find some answers about it. I suspected that he might have been sexually abused as a kid and that this dream might be a repressed memory or something. Another friend of his also thinks he was sexually abused. Not to say that this dream means that but it's quite a disturbing dream and I send you my blessings!

I've had this exact experience since I was 19. It first happened I knew instinctively that there was an evil presense and although I was not a christian at that stage I was calling Jesus's name within me. It and then went away for a couple of years, maybe reappearing each year or so, but lately I've had this experience continously every night. I have subseqently had this terrible fear of going to sleep and have conditioned myself not to sleep too such an extent that I had to seek help. I have been for brain scannes, psychologists etc but all in vain. Fact of the matter is that I know what is wrong and only the name of Jesus can save me. So now I stand firm in his name, knowing that I have given my life to Him and am His disciple, He will not fail me or leave me, He will give me rest and I hold on to this promise. After all, these experiences (although terrifying) make me realise that there is indeed a spiritual world and forces me to stay close to my God. I pray for the presence of the Holy Spirit as opposed to the presence of evil. My only advice, don't let fear penetrate your lifesleep because it can become a vicious cycle. When you are afraid ask yourself- what is the worst that can happen (although you might fear for your life.. i know...) because God's word stands firm and he cannot go back on His promises. Make a concious decision to say "stop", thank God for this ability to be alert in the spritual world and ask Him to use this to His advantage. Say in authority that Jesus's blood has conquered Satan and he will have no stronghold over us- he is under God's authority. Is that not wonderful! Calm your breathing and condition your body to stay calm afterwards. Slow your heart rate and breath deeply. Pray at all times! I still experience this, even last night. But sometimes when I experience it it is when I am strongest in my faith and it makes me believe that Satan wants to break my will. This weekend I had a pray and fast weekend with other Christians and yet last night it happened again. Don't loose hope. You are not alone, although others might not always understand what you are experiencing.

Wow! I have experienced this also. It was most not dream paralysis. I was wide awake! I sleep with my dogs and they actually were near me at the moment, they were licking my face! I saw what was holding me down, i wrote about it in my journal, i like to keep track of things like this. I saw what i can only describe as the most terrifying demon of the next world holding me down. I called for my husband but it was just a whisper and he didn't hear me. It is truly the most terrifying, most helpless feeling in the world. It has happened to me twice in the last six months, which is why i don't sleep. Who wants that to happen? I feel as if something is trying to get to me. How do you tell your psychiatrist (he's just who i talk to about my in ability to get pregnant by the way)that these things are happening? I've told my husband but he laughs it off. I am catholic to the core, i wear my saint's medal around my neck, i pray every night it still happens. What about people like me? I've decided sleep isn't worth it.

This is a common cause of an evil or confused spirit in your home. Seek a spiritualist or if you prefer a priest or any religious figure that can bless your home. Wearing a rosary at night and saying a prayer to your guardian angel before bed will help. Unfortunately it is not a permanent fix, as confused and lost spirits are all around us. The important thing to remember is to use your faith - whatever you choose to follow , to help you in this time. Some of these spirits are sent by others to do evil while others are lost. Do not pray to them. Pray to god, your angels and your guides to protect you. If you a believer in saints, Saint Barbara and St. Michael the Archangel prayers are very helpful and powerful for those who have faith. Blessings to all and hopefully a better nights sleep.

I have these type of dreams all the time and often become conscious during them but my eyes remain closed. What is going on here is that your body and mind is reacting to the fact that your body becomes rigid in the dream state. Your mind reacts to this vulnerability by giving the dreamer the sense/dream that someone, a stranger, is coming into the room, even standing over you, even holding you. In a way it is no different then when your alarm clock goes off when you are dreaming and the subconscious immediately makes the alarm fit into a narrative by making it a train track signal for instance. Your subconscious doesn't think logically, it just randomly tries to give meaning or a narrative to what may be happening in your environment. When your subconscious realizes from time to time, that you can't move your body, you are in a paralyzed dream state, it reacts and at times that means allowing you to panic because you think there is someone in the room but you are unable to run from it. Believe me, I've had this experience often...I know what it is and it is not an evil spirit.

i understand your exact feelings......for most my life i have experienced this, and for along while i was left alone, now it is back, just not attacking me yet. You get the habit of praying, sometimes you can struggle to get out words, but i promise even the word "JESUS" works if you say it with full belief of being helped. you can be helped. if no one wants to, build up enough true faith, and you can do it yourself, but becareful, and make sure you strong enough. coz all it take is true faith smaller than a mustard seed

I have had the same experience of being held down by a shadow figure and it felt like he was pulling energy out of me. I tried screaming but nothing came out. I thought in my mind "Jesus Christ please help me" and by the third time the thing pulled away, but it was still close, I think it was in my closet. As soon as it pulled off I took off into my parent's room (this was 22 years ago). All my life I have seen shadowy figures in my room and strange mists or things hovering above my bed. I pray every night and I believe that the power of prayer does work. I have never been very religous, but I know that by asking Jesus' help even just in your mind does work. When I was in my twenties I had a lot of problems with seeing things like shadowy figures or ghosts. I have found that by igoring them and praying to Jesus, they go away. I haven't had any problems in years. But, lately I have been waking up around 3 or 3:30 or night with a fear that I can't explain. It's very strange and I don't know what could be causing it. Has anyone else experienced this 3 o'clock thing?

My dream was similar to the other dreams I read about. I was held down by a force. I could not get out my screams. I could hear myself wimper because the screams were muffled by the force covering my mouth. It felt so real. It happened this morn. I went back to sleep and it did not happen again. It has happened in the past but not as often as some have reported. I read at a stressful time this dream can occur. I have been stressed and going through a ruff time since aug. Can it mean lack of control? I do feel that way in life. Or could it in fact be a energy? My body is soar mostly my back. Is that from trying to get up and being pushed down?

I just had this same experience so decided to google it. So I joined this group.

I had a dream I was looking for something, I don't know what. I looked in many isles and rooms, each room got darker. Soon I was looking through shadows and walking into areas with no sun. Then I was walking into pitch blackness and couldn't get out, I started to panic, I felt fear and anger inside me. I couldn't get out, I was surrounded in thick air with nothing but terror.
I woke up and heard voice whispering in my ear. It suddenly got very cold so I tried to pull my blankets up but something had me pinned down. Suddenly I couldn't see anything and a strong force had me held down, particularly on the neck. The voices kept getting louder, I tried to talk, to scream, to do anything but I couldn't. I couldn't even yell for help. I started to pray in the name of Jesus Christ constantly thinking his name in my mind, pleading for help. The grip on me loosened and the whispering started to go away. It felt like it was trying to take something from me.
I just want someone to explain why this is happening to me and what it wants. I thought I was saved by Jesus but some evil entity is obviously terrorizing me.
