Boy & Dolphin | Other Dream Interpretations

By GenYBoy Capricorn Boy & Dolphin Some symbols are clear but the interpretation isn't, at least to me. Recently I started noting down my dreams; I struggle with the following: I'm sitting on a bank with a crowd looking down at a pool, square and very deep. Floating peacefully on his back, eyes closed on the top is a boy, beside him an authoritative older girl, more active and treading water, she has a knife. Under them far below in the pool is a dolphin, the water is clear, blue and very deep, the dolphin is swimming in a circle. The girl begins a speech on how the boy is evil and must be fixed/cleansed/punished. The crowd is quiet but I challenge her as to why if the boy has another belief is he evil, she replies and indicates it is because he is linked to the dolphin through their ages; I sense it being 6, and that 6 is the devil's number. Then a blue shiny horn in the shape of a U becomes visible on the boy's forehead, it is clear she intends to remove it. I feel outraged and then the scene goes black, the next sequence is the boy in the hospital with blood slowly seeping from the wound where the horn was removed. not bleeding profusely and the boy is safe. the dream then ends. I understand the symbols as they are and I'm a guy so the boy may represent my inner child but overall am a little perplexed. Any feedback appreciated. Although presented in numerous metaphors, the message is relatively short and focused. Water is symbolic of feminine energies, the Yin. You are familiar, I take it, of Jung's definitions of Psyche; Yin are those traits, gifts of the Anima. You may also be aware of the significance given to the number four (the square-sided pool) as a symbol of divinity. A pool invites us to dive in, as this one beckons to you. The water is deep, deep. As a typical example of the layering of symbolism, the color blue appears again and again. (The subconscious, I believe, finds us so deaf to its language that it resorts to screaming at us as an Englishman might scream English at a Chinese man, thinking that if he is loud enough, it will translate.) Blue is the color of heaven, of spirit, philosophy, divinity, etc. The circle is a symbol of the Self, the Jungian inner Self. Dolphins are nearly invariably associated with spiritual guidance. Notice how the dolphin indicates s/he is bringing a message of the Self by swimming in a circle. Dolphins could also be an indicator of intellect, but the other dream symbols point to a higher level. The number six is especially indicative of spirit over intellect. Six is a female number, associated with Dharma (spirit) as opposed to Karma (works). You sense it as the Devil's number, but I wonder if this is your own belief or the belief impressed upon you by the girl (to whom I am getting in a moment). The blue horn on the boy's forehead is assuredly the sign of divinity. He is a godling as symbolized by the horn, the color blue, the placement on his forehead in the position of the spiritual Third Eye and the act of sacrifice to which he is forced. [The subconscious is screaming its message.] You identify the boy as your inner child, Jung's Self with the capital S, and he may well be. If not that Self than a more conscious self, but I do believe he is an aspect of You, the circle. What you have not mentioned is that the girl is You, too. We dream almost exclusively of ourselves. It's the only individual the subconscious knows intimately, so it can be no other way. Occasionally, the Collective Unconscious will erupt in a dream with a figure that is not Self in some aspect and, occasionally, a Guide will appear, but these are usually easy to identify, and you won't be confused when they appear. You will KNOW. That is why I don't hesitate to identify the girl as either your Anima or Shadow. Because you are male, I lean toward Anima, although she acts so much like a Shadow! Assuming she is the Anima, you appear to be at odds with her. She contains attitudes with which you disagree. Because I am assuming she is not your Shadow, I must assume these are not hidden attitudes, which means there must be some conflict within yourself, known to you. The girl is fairly well-developed with a definite sense of herself, but why is she denying the powers inherent to her gender? It is she who should be the safeguard of the blue horn, not cutting it off. She is denying herself, and your spiritual growth and divinity are the victim of that denial. In the end, the boy is only human, and he is wounded, but he will live, albeit without the spiritual gifts the Anima can allow him. It seems you have a choice.
