I don't get these dreams anymore, but right from when I was a little girl upto when I reached my 20s, I had several dreams with a similar theme. They were mostly about climbing mountains, but sometimes simply about being on an uneven or sloping surface. I remember the milder ones about walking on a footpath that was sloping, and me finding it difficult to walk straight. I would walk awkwardly, trying to maintain my balance, but would sometimes start going down the slope despite my efforts to stay steady. At other times, the dreams were about being stuck (at that time i never had vertigo or any phobia for that matter; in fact i loved and still love mountains) in the middle of climbing a mountain. I was mostly almost at the peak - just a few feet below - and unable to either move forward or backwards. There was always a lot of anxiety associated with this situation; and sometimes there was someone to encourage or assist me. Then, I would reach the top - the summit; and breathe a huge sigh of relief. But this would be shortlived; as I now had to climb down. And I would be frozen with fear. These mountains of my dreams were very rugged, and very difficult to climb (no equipment - I've climbed mountains, but never very steep ones, so never needed equipment). Usually the point where i would be stuck would be a truly impossible-to-climb type of place. Usually, everyone else had proceeded down without me (if i was with people), and they could not hear me that i needed help. I would sit there, very anxious, wanting to get down; and unable to do so. I don't have these dreams anymore; but they were associated with intense anxiety. Sometimes I still dream that I am on a sloping surface, on a height; but the anxiety is never asa intense as before. Usually in the newer dreams i just feel unpleasant about the situation. Can anyone help me understand why I had such frequent dreams about being stuck in the mountains, when I didn't even fear heights or mountains?
