| My Dream. It's the title, not a statement.
The players are two, the only two 'true'.
If you followed the clues he'll show up in blue. Beware the Red Roa and the come of the Son.
I follow this guideline for statements. If you have a rule that cannot break, only it can break itself.
My respects to the creaters of Superman, and everyone that played their part; but namely thank you jerry siegel and joe shuster and family for evolving an idea.
Clark climbed the distance amongst the pack of public. His usual, paper, six quad shot and one dark macchiato. Today was going to be a slow day. He finished off the six and was sipping the macchiato, and five streets later he walked through the doors. Clark saw the elevator close and made no move, the distance was less than a stretch for The Steel. He simply held his head down and hoped to avoid the smirk. She still saw him. He met her gaze and she winked, but made no move toward stopping the closing doors. He pointed upstairs and she shook her head. Lois fingered “two, zero,” I nod my agreement. It was on. He just smiled and waved as the last few inches remained of the closing door.
His gait, awkward; was still mastered as he remarked that his sneakers had survived now two weeks, it’s done its part. He walked to mar Jones’. This concession was usually busy within the close of the hour. Clark thought about the game of bets. The people around him all seemed willing to bet high if they thought they would prosper. “Lois will be down in about ten minutes, Mr. Jones. She said she wanted to do me some favors today.”
“Clark, you two have made many pranks, and some at my expense, but that’s a real woman. She’ll be expecting you to do the favors,” Mr. Jones laughed.
“Lois will do what is right for her, of course; but she also knows her place in this world. She will be especially glad to get us both turkey, with mayo and sweet relish.”
“Mr. Kent, if she even knew you had the nerve to tell her place she chew you up and spit you out. Besides, she hates mayonnaise.” mar Jones was laughing hysterically now.
“I’ll even add mushrooms and onions to wager you a bet, Mr. Jones.”
“Go ahead, and if you’re wrong you work my concession tonight,” he was laughing and near tears.
“There is only one thing I want from you when she asks for that sandwich, Mr. Jones.”
Mar Jones was still laughing as Clark reached the elevators. “Don’t forget Mr. Kent,” he called as the doors shut.
The Steel stared at the wall as he watched her from the stairwell. She fidgeted with her watch as she silently beseeched the rise to quicken. He lightly ran the stairs and simply watched as she now approached the seventh floor.
At the eighth floor, Steel waited. The button near his hand illuminated, and the doors opened.
“Not a chance Kent! Twenty bucks!” Lois rapped the close button and Clark held his hand out and stopped the closing doors.
“I just wanted to let you know, Lois. Not only am I going to beat you up there today, but you’re going to be my little helper today.”
“You have some nerves Smallville. I’m going to send you down stairs to buy my lunch with your money.”
“I’m still pretty young, your already near the mid of your second decade right?”
“Alright, school’s out. Not only whoever reaches the fifteenth for twenty, but also; whoever gets to the top first. My rule is that you can’t press the button to stop the elevator. You have to make it the whole way up without holding me back.” Clark removed his hand from the door.
“Okay but when I get that twenty from you; I’m going to get the graces to spend it on the graces that you’ve been trying to angel this whole time.”
Lois was now the one holding the doors open. “What’s the scoop Smallville?”
“We’ll never tell.”
You think I can’t smell your trap? I bet Mr. Zegal will be asking me if he should fire you, and I’m going to have to save your butt again before the day is up.” Lois met his gaze and just smiled. “Name the stakes flyboy.”
“Lois not only am I going to beat you all the way up the stairs, I’m getting you dinner for letting me win.”
“Whose says you’re buying me dinner? In fact after today is up he’ll probably promote me just so that I can boss you around.”
“He’ll have us sitting together by tomorrow, side by side, and you may hold the title but you’ll know who’s in charge,” Clark just smiled away at her gawking expression.
“Okay, earth to cloud surfer. Firstly, I’m the boss, and second; if you make it out of the political comics before the years up, I’ll even put in a good word with the boss.”
Clark was there as the doors opened, shirt ruffed and glasses fogged, she lipped not a chance as the thirteenth floor doors shut.
Jimmy came up, “so you and Lois at it again?”
“Could use your help Jimmy.”
“Anything K.”
“Drop the word to Mr. Z when you show those pictures that Lois and I are both on it. Tell him that I said “the vigilante is going public later.”
“Sure thing, by the way I’m heading to the concession, you want anything?”
“No but tell Mr. Jones that Lois will be down for her usual.”
Rapping on the elevator Clark huffed into his hands and mimicked a rasping voice “Lois, I’m made for this. Just like I’m made for you” She laughed, Not a chance.
“Give up Mr. Iron lungs, it’s me and the boss, a buck the boss threatens to fire you simply because he knows I’m the only reporter they need!”
Clark yelled through the floor hoping she could still hear him. “Fifty and a bottle of merlot says he promotes me and tells you we shouldn’t ever be apart.”
“Deal!” She shook her head, Can’t beat the system, then play the games.
The Steel stared at the elevator that climbed the wall and smiled. He merely walked the stairs in key with her.
Back down stairs, Jimmy ran over. “Mr. Zegal wants to talk to you K. Lois, he wanted you to know that your last article was gold.”
Lois’ frown turned into a gaudy smile, but was replaced with wonder as she looked at Clark. “Why the cloak and dagger meeting Clark? Jimmy?”
“Sorry Lois, you know how it is in the trenches.” |
