Dreams can provide insight into our deepest thoughts. Using dream interpretation to explore dream symbols and uncover a dream's meaning can lead to a better understanding of ourselves.
I woke up to hear somebody yelling, "Come on. Come on! It's time to get up. Let's be having you. Now!" and then came the threat: "If you're not ready in five I will be leaving without you."
As I pulled off the cover hiding my eyes, I saw snow flakes descending from the overcast heavens and felt them melt on my face. I slowly gained back my strength and sat up. I had slept on a ledge with the lower half of my body in a cutaway sleeping bag and my upper body covered by a thick and warm down-filled jacket. As I sat up I looked over the ledge and lurched back in amazement. I was thousands of feet up on the upper slopes of a mountain. As I looked up I realised we'd climbed the side of a volcano and I hoped it was extinct like Mt. Kilimanjaro.
Once again the team leader demanded I hurry up, and ashamedly I asked him, "What height are we at?" "Hurry up man, get a move on," he yelled back and started up the mountain. "We need to be there by nine." His response hadn't actually answered my question, though at least he'd implied we were headed for the summit. I hurried to join my schoolmates on the icy face of the mountain and laughed out loud when I saw they were carrying toboggans.
When we got to the summit, there were people running round enjoying themselves and I got confused about where we actually were. The summit was nothing but a shopping mall with a large car park. I looked back where we had climbed to make sure I was really at the summit, and we were. Feeling hungry, and not knowing what else to do, I went into a pizzeria in the mall where I ordered pepperoni thick crust with five extra toppings.
Moments later the team-leader summoned us and said it was time for us to leave. Most of my schoolmates climbed onto the toboggans and sped off down the mountain at breakneck speeds. As I had no toboggan of my own I thought about crawling in to my large polythene survival bag and sliding down the mountain in that. Coming to my senses, I realised that the poly bag wouldn't survive long on this mountain so I went back and 'liberated' a table top from the mall and sped off on that at high speed, soon overtaking my schoolmates who were riding the toboggans.
At about five thousand feet we were down at the snow-line where the toboggans clattered onto scree and broke up in small pieces, while my unfortunate schoolmates landed up in some bushes. My table top, far tougher than the toboggans, carried me further down the mountain and then straight over a cliff. As I am a good surfer, I stood up on the table and with a few expert moves I glided the table top over to a grass meadow where it landed. I laid down there to sleep and a grazing sheep woke me as it nudged up against me and licked at my face.
When I opened my eyes I found the bedclothes wrapped round me and my legs lying under the throw. My dog had climbed up on the bed and was licking my face as he wanted to go out of the house. The message on my phone said my best friend had called out to me several times at my door, hoping to wake me up and give me a lift into school.
Our dreams will often build themselves around something that we (at some level) are aware of in the waking world. However, the dreams will still hold truths for us.
What stood out for me in this dream is your resourcefulness - which showed up over and over - you found food when you were hungry, made use of materials that were available to you, and "surfed" where others wouldn't dream of surfing.
Best Regards,
Rose
