    Birthday Today?

EP says today is your birthday!  Happy Birthday!  I bought a book of your essays.  Its sitting on my night table, next to my bed.  Tonight, in your honor, I crack the spine and dive in.  Happy Birthday, Ralph!  See you later.

    Emerson Changed My Life.

At a time when I was suffering from self  doubt and questioning what a purposeful life would entail, I was introduced to my hero...Ralph Waldo Emerson. His words written so long ago still apply wholeheartedly to our present state of affairs. He is very empowering and he really...

Ch. 1: Uses Of Great Men ( Taste This )

It is natural to believe in great men. If the companions of our childhood should turn out to be heroes, and their condition regal, it would not surprise us. All mythology opens with demigods, and the circumstance is high and poetic; that is, their genius is paramount. In the...

    One Mans "love"

Every promise of the soul has innumerable fulfilments; each ofnt. Nature, uncontainable, flowing, forelooking, in the first sentiment of kindness anticipates already a benevolence which shall lose all particular regards in its general light. The introduction to this felicity is...

    Compensation

I've read Emerson since youth, but only got turned on to him in old age when I did a project on compensation, the notion that for everything that happens there is a compensatory act, event or opportunity,  If only we have eyes to see.  Emerson's somewhat maligned essay became...
