I Always Finish Written Sentences With 3 Dots

Personal Stories, Advice, and Support 898 People

    It's called an ellipsis.

.. it has a number of uses but is most often used to indicate an unfinished thought, a leading statement, a slight pause, or an awkward silence... I can't say I always use it in written communication... but when communicating online I am writing as I think... my thoughts seldom...

How and why I started this I don't know, but over the years it has become a habit of mine which now I cannot break. The problem is, it may be more than 3 dots from me....and they also come in the middle of a sentence as well.I couldn't break it now even if I tried...Some people...

If it has 3 dots it's not finished.

The 3 dots are not for dramatic effect. They represent that there is more to be said. "To be continued..."

    Yeah this is mostly me.

.. But honestly, 80% of the time I use 2 dots. Cuz 1 dot isn't enough and makes the the sentence too much of a statement and 3 leaves it too open ended.. So 2 is just in between.

I have no idea if it's an adhd thing

for me, but I always think of one thing as I'm typing something so I use two or three dots to partially close my thought so I can type my new thought and then I'll think of something else and it'll keep going on and on and on. It also gives a little dramaticness to whatever I'm...

I use it a lot when I post in social media

so then it can be added in for more drama plus that is how my thought process works... I know it's weird! But I do, otherwise my writing feels choppy and commas just feel awkward...
