I Am a Black Woman

African-American/Black Women 868 People

It seems like black women are despised

and pushed to the bottom of the pole by everyone more and more everyday. I know people say to not let ignorance get to you. Don't let people hurt you. But seeing these people, the majority black men talk about black women like they're trash is the most hurtful thing ever. We're...

It took a lot of hard work to get to the point

where I am able to look in the mirror and say I am not ugly. It took a lot of hard work to not point out all of my flaws. It took even more of an effort to look at society's image of the perfect girl with long legs,a tiny waist, long flowy hair, just perfect everything and not...

So I originally wrote this story: EP Link And

I wrote it at a very down time in my life where I was coping with my ex who lacked a strong character and confidence in himself when I knew him. Black women are beautiful because we are. Honestly, we have beautiful skin and I have always loved the variations of color that can...

Not that I want to be anyone other than me, but yeah it worries me. I'm insecure about it sometimes.

I don't understand this whole childish thing

I have never gotten the hang of hair care.

Before when I used to relax it, it would always end damaged. Now that I am natural, it's not different. How do some of you do it? I got cornrows with extensions, and it is in the worst state it ever because it was braided too tight. Then I put box braids, and the bald spots...

Taking care of your body is like making

Valentine's chocolate, or like carving a pumpkin, or decorating a Christmas tree, or Easter tree, or brewing coffee, or making wine etc. you've got to put your soul into it, or you're doing it wrong and it will look like a dried plum. Much like my skin at this moment :/

The Reality Of A Dark Skinned Woman

Dark skinned females in America are at the bottom of the barrel. We get down graded in rap music, on tv, stereotyped as being loud and ghetto fabulous with long weaves and fingernails, we get rejected by our own race of men whom would gladly choose a white women over us, we get...

From the silky rasp of my voice, the gentle sway of my hips. And he loves the way the light catches my skin. The glow, a hint of warm, sweet mocha that peaks out beneath my modest covering. I love being me. I love being a black woman.
