I Am a Combat Veteran

I am currently in a dilemma,

to go or stay...No I do not mean suicide, although it does not mean that it didn't cross my mind once or twice. Do I consider myself normal, well the better questions is what is normal, how do you delineate normal from abnormal nowadays.

    While I am not American,

this is also happening to vets in many countries, I personally know several who have receive no help when in great personal turmoil other than from fellow vets. These people deserve and have earned all the help/support we can offer.

    I was an intelligence analyst.

I deployed twice to Iraq and once to Afghanistan. I "saw" combat all the time, through the reports and the pictures coming across my desk. I was only "in" combat twice. Both times were in my first deployment to Iraq, from Feb '04 - Feb '05. Both times, my convoy (once it...

The first man I loved never slept.

He would hold his dreams at arms length until the sun came up and it was safe to briefly shut his eyes. He was very quiet. When we were together, we would breathe the silence between us. Sometimes the complete lack of sound was too much for me, and I was frustrated: say...

The most difficult part of being a veteran (in

my opinion), is knowing that it's over and I can never go back to doing what I loved doing the most. I miss it more than anything, my most hated and treasured memories.
