I Am a Cyclist

Personal Stories, Advice, and Support 135 People

At home in Norway, I go everywhere by bicycle.

I always have. Well, except when we went out orienteering with my brothers. I have a mountain bike. Oh, and yes the saddle can feel both awkward and nice!

    A shameful arriviste,

however. As a child, I never really managed to graduate from the tricycle. I was already in my late 20s when I taught myself to ride, sneaking off to the park after dark to fall off and climb on again... I was at least in my thirties before I could be said to be anything but a...

    I Am A Recyclist

I get around locally by shanks’ mare (own legs) these days, and am fortunate to be close to all the necessary amenities, including an underground or subway system which  connects to a far-reaching ground transit system. As a youth I won an Armstrong 3-speed bike on a radio...

    Double Century

Yep, 200 miles in one day. When I rode RAGBRAI I rode a whole day with a cyclist from CA. She talked about double centries, I couldn't imagine doing it. Then last year I did a 160 mile ride and I was tired, but after about an hour I was like, hmmm.... maybe I could go farther...

    The Daily Grind...

My alarm woke me up this morning at 5am. I lay there for a few minutes wondering if I should get out of bed, but it was a pointless exercise because I knew I would be kicking myself later if I didn't get up and ride. Had a quick bite, put some tunes on my ipod and started...

    Love Cycling...

My wife and I recently completed a round-trip vacation from New Jersey to California (well, Lake Tahoe - we rode around the lake,) rode across Death Valley, Saw Hoover Dam, and the Grand Canyon, no name a few places. We had no mechanical trouble at all riding our Honda Gold Wing...

    Cycling has became a passion

for me as I have grown older. It brings me inner peace and allows my mind to wander places that I am unable to achieve during daily life. It is a great time for me to think about how good life truly is, how much my children have grown and how truly blessed I am. When I return...

    8th Ragbrai

I just signed up to do my 8th RAGBRAI. It will be the second shortest route ever at 406 miles and it will be the shortest ride I have ever done. I am already in training riding my stationary bike about 100 miles a week.  Can't wait for the weather to improve so I can get outside...

    Well it’s off season,

I have earned a few weeks off the bike after 5400 miles on the bike this year. I have started riding more with a new group of faster guys, and a few gals this past year.  They have made me a better cyclist, both stronger and faster.  I am okay at pushing myself when I ride...

    Low Impact

I love riding my bike outdoors. I can get in shape and enjoy mother nature, on the American River Bike trail in Sacramento, California. It is a long paved two lane 32+ mile bike path next to a river. Sometimes I will see rabbits and deer or maybe salmon swimming up stream. There...

    Actually...

No, I'm not.  I'm definitely a fitness enthusiast but am getting so freaking bored with running on a treadmill (we've had a horrible winter here) that I can barely stand it.  And my Wii fit is just an obnoxious little electronic putz.  I do like Dance Dance...

    Missing My Bike!

I took my bike to get ******** and rebuilt yesterday. I've had it since I was 15 and on the national team. The bike was built specifically for me and is my favourite possession....I miss it already! The work is gonna take a week! Everyday for the past two years I have gone out on...

    My Bike Became My Wheelchair

I have been a cyclist for 9 years of my life. I accomplished many a thing at my young age with winning races back to back. I was captain for teams and it was all going great. I got adventurous one time and took up downhill. I crashed out when i went over a jump and jammed my...
