    I am a father not just a ***** provider.

I've changed diapers, sat in emergency rooms, stayed up late helping with home work, lost sleep worrying, provided a shoulder to cry on, laughed with them, cried with them, prayed for them, and the best word I'm called is when they say "dad". I love my kids.

Several years ago my father-in-law passed away

from prostate cancer, leaving my mother-in-law a widow. Not ready to give up her independence, she chose to stay in their home. Unfortunately, the home and property were just getting to be too much for her to care for. My oldest opted to attend a private university that is...

Thanks to Harry Chapin For Making Me a Better Father

I have always been touched by the Harry Chapin son “Cat’s in the cradle”. For those of you who don’t know the song, the storyline is about a father who was so busy with his career that he failed to make his child a priority. In his later years, when he wanted to spend...

So the youngest runs home from college

for the weekend, I think he's starving and homesick. He notices every tiny detail of the changes at home since he's been gone. Notices the different color spectrum of the light bulb in the living area lamp. As a joke, I tell him that if he notices that.....he's really going...

I'm tired of feeling like a failure

    Being a Dad

It's hard for me to put in words on what being a father means to me. When my son was born he was early. 3 months early, I spent day and night with him feeding him through a tube in his nose. Holding him everyday for as long as they would let me. He was small but a fighter, he has...

It's not easy being a single dad.

OK, probably as hard as being a single mum, and there are tons of those, but this is my point of view. My wife left only a few months after our son was born. One day she was there, the next she wasn't. To be honest I didn't care. When I realized she'd left I'd supposed she'd...

Not A Father But A Single Mother

Just wish I knew what to do.  I am sure my son is missing out on some things not having a father.  Sometimes I google Father for Rent or Father for Hire to see if there is such a thing.  Sometimes I am mad at myself for letting this happen to me.  I love my son but I know he...

Five children, all grown. Two grandchildren, very small. I am not a buddy, a pal or distant entity to my children, but a father. I raised them, I educated them, I fed them, clothed them, spent time with them, looked after them and still do. It is not an easy position, but it is...

    My Daughter Is Too Great

I got divorced when my daughter was 2.  It was a bad scene; I had a huge Manic episode.  But I fought for joint custody and I got it.  We have always been very close, and as we've both grown up, our relationship has continued to evolve.  When she was...

Why Is It So Important For A Father To Be In His Daughter's Life?

THIS QUESTION WAS ASKED OF ME BY A YOUNG WOMAN: Why is it so important for a father to be in his daughter's life? After standing there for a few minutes with my jaw hanging down, I finally answered: This question just blows me away. Seriously. You don't know? I don't know the...

I'd prove to everyone I'm not going to be a bad father like mine. I'll have something worth fighting for and I'll love that child more than myself. One day, I'll be the best father possible.
