I did this course when I was 14 called surf

life saving and after I became certified I was offered a part time job as a lifeguard and I've been with this club for 7 years now! I'd have to say the best advantage is spending most of my afternoons on the beach and having free access to the jet skis and surf boards :)

    First Rescue

I work at a waterpark, so the first rescue (save) is a little more understated than at pools, which seem to be more welcoming of that kind of thing. Rescues are generally discouraged, whereas "assists" -extending your tube to the victim- are rewarded. Anyway, my first...

    I Love Being A Lifeguard

This is my second year guarding. My first year was cool. I haven't had to do a recuse (YET) but I know my time is coming! I know it's like a right's of passage kinda thing. But I love my job, I can't till the season starts! I'm so excited! And another reason why I like this job...

I became a lifeguard the last day of 2013.

I am also a swim instructor and I couldn't be happier with my job and the people I'm surrounded by. Very thankful that my hard work paid off!

I work at a place with 3 pools,

one with a deep end. Normally we don't let them kids into that pool, but this one time a dad with 3 kids insisted on bringing them into dive... Was very reluctant but he insisted and threatened to go the management (wtf?). Anyway, long story short the dad decided to take a...

    Save Today

I've only been a lifeguard for a few months now but I have had a bunch of saves. However, today I had a save that freaked me out. I was lifeguard 5 which sits at the bottom of the slide. A dad went down with his three year old girl and set her on the ledge so he could catch his...

It's been said that a good lifeguard will

prevent things from happening well that is not always the case especially when dealing with older kids. Here is what happened to me. I am working by myself it was a fairly busy day and fairly warm, I had a boy about 15 or 16 come over too me and ask what would happen if he did...

    1st Save?

I don't know about you, but at my pool, your first save is like a rite of passage.  I just got mine the other day, after guarding for a year.  its about time!  anyways, it was pretty funny.  my manager periodically walks around and makes sure that the guards...

    One time, while on guard,

my co worker made a deep end save without a tube. But the save was very quick as he could get across the pool fast! Anyone else think a tube slows you down? Is there or could there be a better tube to make faster saves?

One of the best things about being a lifeguard

was after the crowds left the pools and us lifeguards could enjoy all the peace and quiet at the end of the day and lock up. And then if its just us guards, we'd ***** down and use the saunas, whirlpools, and swim naked all we wanted and no one to complain or mind it. Nothing...

Is it just me or are there some extreme design

flaws in Lifeguard Shepherds Crooks? They look like they could injury the person you're trying to help. They, Squidward Tentacles, suck eggs.
