I Am A Maladaptive Daydreamer

I don't understand why people complain

so much about this. For me is really enjoyable. I never had a problem in real life because of this, unless I count some embarrasing situations where I was spotted laughing or doing gestures or my mom has read something I wrote while in the fantasy...other than that I live alone...

Ever since I can remember I've had vivid

fantasies that I can escape to for lack of a better word. When I was younger they were less 'disturbed'. They centre around books or tv shows that I liked, Harry Potter, Brothers and Sisters, Greys anatomy etc..but as I got older they became darker and more twisted. I imagined I...

    I am a maladaptive daydreamer,

but unlike most people who suffer from it, I don't really think I'm "suffering." I love doing it, and I feel like if I ever tried to stop, I'd be broken inside... I love all my character so much, probably more than the people in my life...Anyone else feel that way?

It happens with no particular reason.

I love daydreaming. It's the only thing that helps me escape reality for seconds and feel good about living. I don't care if someone sees me smiling alone, it's awkward but atleast I found a way to go on with life.

All these years, I've never quite known what my

escapism was until recently. Is it normal? Is it a disorder? Am I mentally ill? Is it common? What is normal? Well to me, in reference to behavior patterns, 'normal' means healthy and non-destructive. I emphasize this because one could live in a society where it is a standard...
