Why is it that we feel we need to escape from our feelings? After all what's the worst that can happen if we face them? To-nite will be a real test for this alcoholic
My mood: extremely sad

It's only natural to want to escape from negative feelings.  We all have this desire.  But there are healthy ways to escape.  Artwork, exercise, meditation, whatever you can do to focus your mind elsewhere for a while.  Drinking is the worst kind of escape for an alcoholic.

For me, I continue to not confront my feelings because I am still learning how too. For too many years I hide in drugs and alcohol so I didn't have to face my feelings. It has been too many years and too many substances to even try to figure out how it started but I know today I am getting better. Feelings are just something we have to deal with for a time. The sooner we face them the sooner we can move on. As hard as it may seem now it can only getting simpler as long as you don't use. The key to my sobriety is my faith and the fact that I never put myself in a situation that tests me. Go with God and know you are not alone.

Whether you choose to drink or not, and it is a choice, the problem will still be there when you wake up.  You will also have a new propblem to add to it. Your feelings about yourself for relapsing.  Those feelings hang around much longer than a hangover.
