When will my past mistakes stop creeping up on me and opening old wounds that I do not know if I am ready to deal with yet? There should be some sort of time frame that exists to store bad memories. If only they could be erased say after 3 months. Mine keeps coming back and I do not know how to handle it.

There are no easy answers to this one. I am in therapy weeding out my garden. It takes a lot of time and a lot of work. If you have a close friend or family member that can help you when you feel distressed and frustrated, that would help alot. Reach out to people who suffer like this too, believe me there a lot of us out there.

I hope you find your way through all this and come out a happier you.

God Bless

When the mistakes surface you are ready to face them, believe it or not.

God will bring you threw what he brings you to.

God, I wish I had an answer to that one!  Although it feels like never, with time, the reliving of past mistakes will lessen- I promise!

When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.  Wise words from my sponsor early into my sobriety.  As an  alcoholic, I was very impatient and wanted everything yesterday. I had to learn patience and accept I wasn't ready to resolve certain problems yet.  Some problems I had for many years and because I had the desire to clean up my past did not mean I had the skill yet.  We are in a whole new learning curve and it takes time to learn how to deal with life in a healthier way.  I found after doing Step 6 and 7, I was ready to start dealing with old issues as a person with grace and integrity.  Give it time.  You will get there.
