I Am a Runner

Personal Stories, Advice, and Support 2,153 People

    Between the time change,

the weather change plus my huge falling out with the friend who first encouraged me to run, I don't want to lose my momentum. I was getting up every day at 4 so I could run at 5 to beat the heat. Here I am at 6:30 am still in bed being lazy because its cold. All that to...

Not too long ago I broke my pelvis,

tail bone, 4 ribs and my collar bone. I didn't think I would ever run again. Thankfully I have rehabbed ok, and I have even started running again. I'm not quite the swift runner I once was, but with some time maybe I'll get there again. Every run is precious.

I am exhausted, but I have not gotten out to run

since Sunday. The gym closes in 2 hours, but my *** is already firmly implanted on my couch. I need to get my focus back or I will never be ready to run May 9th.

But have not run in almost a year

and have no excuse. Was in the best shape of my life at 45 and dropped the ball. Need to go back to where I felt good about my schedule for running. Maybe it takes new shoes to motivate me, but looking for inspiration!

    I alternate between cardio

and weights every day, and yesterday was a heavy weights day. It's sprinkling rain but unseasonably warm and humid. Very windy too. So I deliberately left my watch at home, put my earbuds in, put the music on shuffle and went. It was one of those runs, and all you runners...

More things I hate that I've seen

while running, that I've discussed with a former runner, former friend of mine.... 1) People who smell good when they're running. Come on. Really? 2) Couples in matching running outfits? *gag*

When I was 50 I joined my local running club.

Now at the age of 58 I can run a mile in 6:20, a 5k in 21:30 and a 10k in 43:50. My training for the next year and a half will be geared to help me run a sub 6 minute mile when I will be over 60!

Am I? I mean I run, mostly away

but sometimes I return. I run from places to places in more ways that the term run could encompass. But when does one become a runner? Is it when you decide that the casual jog isn't doing much for you any more? Or when u decide that the 5 k is too short?

My brothers and I were raised to be athletes.

It's important to being able to run long distances, map points referenced. My parents would take us orienteering in the wilds above Stavanger. I do run still, mainly at the gym, but I do do roadwork sometimes, just go out for a run.
