I Am a Secular Humanist

Good Lord I believe in us!?!?!? 192 People

    Me Too !!

I just found out that this group existed. Neat! I have always been secular, and for many years have been a humanist, but I did not know that there was an actual term that generalizes my beliefs. Actually, the first time I heard the term was when I took this neat online religion...

    I Am

I didn't really know what one is, until I read Jerry Falwell's book on the subject. He was quite upset at us, we were ruining the country. By the time I finished his book, I was proudly proclaming myself a Secular Humanist.

religious attitude not as belief in a doctrine but as a commitment to promoting the most enduring values. That commitment is typically embedded in social movements — the faithful come together to engage in rites, to explore ideas and ideals with one another and to work...

    Personal Responsibility And Morality

One of the chief complaints by Christians about non-believers is that we have no code of morality. There's nothing stopping us from going on a murder spree because we expect no eternal damnation from that act. So for anyone who is a little confused about the code of morality for...

Perhaps. I try not to think about it however.

I have had a long life. I was raised an American Baptist, I raised my children in the ECLA (Lutheran) and my wife and I are currently members of the Unitarian Universalist Church although we don't attend very often. My daughter just got married in the UU church and was happy...

    Foxhole

Because I'm not a theist, my wife's family loves to use the line about there being no atheists in foxholes. I argued the point halfheartedly, wondering if it were possible that I'd change my tune if I knew my doom was nigh (nothing good ever seems to be nigh). I had a 'fall...

here's my problem: as a secular humanist by

definition I am both critical of religion and against bigotry. I'd like to live in a world where we all coexist but with Christianity and Islam, specifically, this seems impossible. they are both intolerant of other beliefs. since they both condemn each other it's impossible...
