I was born and raised in TN.

I used to hate that and my accent, but I've changed my tune. My accent may not be very thick, but it's definitely there. I think being an English major has effected how I say things a bit; I know I try not to sound too redneck (not that there's anything wrong with that :)). But...

I Am a Proud Southern Belle.

I can make tea (our kinda tea, not hot and not kool aid mix crap!) and fried chicken (fried anything).  I have the accent, although not as strong as others, but it doesn't make me stupid (like I've heard from many pea brained yankees).  My favorite movie is GWTW...

It's just something I grew up with.

I get picked on a little from folks from the north but I don't mind. I just speak what come naturally. If you don't like it....I'll just smile and say,' oh bless your heart'.

    Oil

My friend from Boston once put me on speakerphone so I could say the word "oil" for the group she had in her home.  I happily obliged...  And when she corrected my pronunciation I pointed out that she didn't have the right to correct that particular word. ...

    Southern Charm

I was pretty much raised back and forth between North Carolina and this lil holler of a town in West Virginia. About 7 years ago we moved way up past the line to Michigan, thankfully haven't lost my twang at all. People still point it out because I say things like si-gogglin',y...

I'm not a lady and I'm not from the south,

I'm a man from New Hampshire but I gotta say I love the accent on southern women. I don't get the pleasure of hearing it often, I think southern women avoid the northeast like the plague but man oh man is it sexy. Granted I can't really distinguish certain dialects state to...

"American by birth, Southern by the Grace of God!"  How very well spoken the gentleman was! While I have been transplanted to California, I still long for my Old Kentucky Home. Home is more than a spot on a map, it is the maner in which one was raised, the scents...
