I Am a Survivor of Childhood Cancer

Personal Stories, Advice, and Support 57 People

    Perspective

I didn't want to put this in my other post because I didn't write it, and it isn't really about me... but it could be.  I know at least a couple of my friends that have also survived childhood cancer feel this way, too.  I love the way it's written, but I admit that I...

The Good, The Bad And The Ugly

When I was in 8th grade (13 yrs old-1979) I found a lump in my neck. My mom Immediately took me to the Dr.. After several tests they decided I needed a biopsy. From that they concluded that I had Hodgkins. They did exploratory surgery on my mid-section and removed my spleen while...

    Cancer Sucks!

“You have cancer”. When I heard that on November 15,2011, I was devastated, terrified, and shocked. It all started on October 4th, 2011. I went to the dermatologist due to dandruff, and I also wanted to show her a weird bump on my scalp. It’d been there for five years...

    The 'C' Word

I was diagnosed with a rare form of childhood cancer at the age of 14. March 10th, 2011 to be exact. I had always thought I was invincible, nothing bad ever happened to me! Before my cancer my life was close to what you could call perfect. From March 10th 2011 until November...

    Survived?

The diagnosis came when I was fifteen. And like all twists of fate, it abruptly ended a period and caused all that came before it to become some sort of a vaguely remembered, clearly exaggerated Golden Age. I was, for the first time in my life, head over heels in love, and as...

    I have been cancer free

for 23 years... and last Friday i did my FIRST ever relay for life, my victory lap! It was scary, and emotional, i fought back tears and at the same time felt numb and confused, it was all in all overwhelming, but i am glad i did it!

I've been reading some of these experiences

with something about not being able to remember yourself before the diagnosis, but I can't seem to forget it or stop comparing it to myself now. I was diagnosed with osteosarcoma when I was 16, which was last year. I was volunteering at a hospital when I started having pain in...

    Luckily I was a baby

and I don't remember anything. Retino blastoma is a rare and dangerous cancer of the eye, it's more common in kids. Because at the time Iran didn't have the right doctors we had to come to the UK. I have one false eye, and an eye with less than 20% vision, so I'm registered...
