I've been a vegetarian for 15 years now. I became a vegetarian when I was 13. I always wanted to be one because of my love of animals. My family really had a fit but I made it clear that I didn't want to eat meat anymore. I never was fond of meat to begin with. I always prefered to eat vegetables anyway so it wasn't a big transition for me. The hardest part was that I was a minor at the time and my family really dissaproved. But I didn't back down. |
| Fresh Poster | on 12:14PM at May 11th, 2008 I did it in steps kind of. Red meat when I was very young (like under 10 thanks to my vegan mother), chicken when I was around 17 and fish when I was 19. Now the next step is to go vegan but just like the other post said, that is a hard lifestyle (Especailly when you have a meat-eating boyfriend) |
| Fresh Poster | on 02:56PM at May 11th, 2008 6 years? 8 years? I'm not sure. I just went vegan a couple weeks ago. It really isn't as hard as it seems my ovo-lacto friends. ;) Earth Balance makes a vegan margarine that is delicious. I dislike soy milk... so I tried Rice milk. You'd be surprised how many of your already vegetarian meals are vegan. :) Spaghetti is vegan (minus the cheese on top), stir fry can be vegan real easy. Get the book Veganomicon! Hit theppk.com. Tons of wonderful vegan recipes. Yummy! |
| Fresh Poster | on 09:04PM at May 19th, 2008 Reasons for vegetarianism vary. Mine is to save life/not to harm. I went veggie when I was about 12, which is 14 years ago. I don't remember what I thought or why then, it just happened, together with my mom. I think we have no right to takes lives, period. If I get stranded on some desert island where there are no berries or mushrooms or whatever other plants to eat to survive, I'm forced to hunt & I will. But, in places where food is readily available, I am refusing to support slaughter just for sensory pleasures. That's just my choice & I don't judge those who choose differently. |
| Fresh Poster | on 10:23PM at May 19th, 2008 A little more than three years. :D |
| Fresh Poster | on 10:27PM at May 19th, 2008 Just about 6 months for moi! Next step is vegan :-) |
| Fresh Poster | on 01:46AM at May 29th, 2008 10-11 years since I was 7-8 I became vegetarian because it fit with my love for animals, morals and values. It was interesting as none of my family or friends were vegetarian. It just felt right for me. I've been vegetarian ever since and Im 19 now |
| Fresh Poster | on 12:41PM at Jun 3rd, 2008 I've been mostly vegetarian for 15 yrs, but it's only in the last couple years that I've kicked the gummi bear habit and gone from rarely eating fish to never eating it. |
| Fresh Poster | on 02:41PM at Jun 11th, 2008 Nearly 2 years now.

| Fresh Poster | on 07:15PM at Jun 11th, 2008 21 years, although I do not remember giving up chicken or turkey, one christmas I went to buy the turkey and could not face eating it and also at certain times of the month I have to eat salmon or tuna as I crave it badly. |
| Fresh Poster | on 11:15AM at Jun 12th, 2008 Has been 15 years for me. but only about 13 years at the level where I am now (started out still eating seafood). Also thought at the time that I'd give up eggs and dairy eventually, but I think I've given up on that! :} |

| Fresh Poster | on 03:26PM at Oct 6th, 2008 I have been a vegetarian during my whole life. 53 years now. Any questions? |
| Fresh Poster | on 10:53AM at Aug 29th, 2009 I've been a vegetarian for 14 years now. I was 'forced' to eat meat in kindergarden because the teachers would say that "I was a bad example for the other kids" (after me,everyone in my class wanted to become a vegetarian too :p ). My mom has been vegetarian ever since I was born, but I was truly convinced that not eating meat was right when I saw a baby cow being separated from its mother so that the mother could be slain and made into hamburgers. Ugh. Well that's my story :) Last edited on 10:53AM at Aug 29th, 2009; edited a total of 1 time |
