Fresh Poster | on 01:47PM at Jan 30th, 2008 I've just watched this:
http://www.petatv.com/tvpopup/Prefs.asp?video=meet_your_meat
and decided to become vegan (or possibly vegetarian if I can't handle it).
I'm wondering why you all decided to become vegetarian and not vegan.
Was it too difficult a lifestyle change?
Did you not agree with it?
Other reasons????
I'm not trying to be patronizing by any means!
Just curious and switching into a completely new way to live.
~thanks :) |
| Fresh Poster | on 02:28PM at Feb 7th, 2008 not vegan because:
1. chickens can't help but lay eggs, whether they are fertilized or not
2. cows will die if you do not milk them
thats why |
| Fresh Poster | on 02:30PM at Feb 7th, 2008 wow i just re-read my reply and i sound really mean
sorry! |
| Fresh Poster | on 08:32AM at Feb 26th, 2008 i actually aim at being 100% vegan. i dont always succeed perfecyly but im not too hard on myself. if i accidentally get some cheese and egg i dont freak out. but i would say that im mostly vegan.
it just feels right for ME.
i think the reason more veggies dont go vegan is it really cuts out alot of foods that are common in our society like ice cream and butter just to name 2 small examples. i think everyone comes to their lifestyle in their own time. and its ok, the main thing is these poor animals, it just kills me to see what they go through so we people can fill our gluttony.
sorry. i get crazy and i have to really watch myself since i use to eat meat too!
peace,
wendy |
| Fresh Poster | on 05:48PM at Apr 16th, 2008 I really want to - I mean I don't drink cows milk but my mum won't let me until I'm older which nkinda sucks because I think i could do it already
-x-x-x |
| Fresh Poster | on 08:14PM at Apr 16th, 2008 well, I would, and I've tried several times- but it gets way hard. I do try to avoid lactose products, but I am not full-out vegan. I don't drink milk (but I love soy milk, so no problems there) and rarely use butter (like on toast or something), but if the products are baked/cooked into something, I'll eat it. Cheese I pretty much eat without restraint, but when given the option of soy cheese-- it's actually quite good. Soy yogurt is delicious, too!
So though there are alternatives, it becomes hard to keep track and expenses rise. I hate having to watch too closely what I eat (and I already have to do some of that being a vegetarian). But in the end, what really draws me back, I think, is that I live in a household that isn't vegan. My mother buys animal products and cooks with them and so consequently feeds me with them. So perhaps when I move out, I will be able to become fully vegan...
(whoa sorry that was a mad long response) |
| Fresh Poster | on 09:50PM at Apr 16th, 2008 I'm totally working on becoming vegan too because it is a cruelty free lifestyle. I found lots of info on the website dumpdairy.com And i do love silk soy milk! Thats all I drink. The only thing w/ vegan living is it's so frigin expensive! |
| Fresh Poster | on 07:28PM at Apr 29th, 2008 musiciality...cows will die if not milked???????? They wouldn't produce milk in the first place if they were not forced to be pregnant several times a year, having their calves taken away for export to other countries for the awful veal trade. They are forced to produce abnormal amounts of milk. This is not natural. Not preaching, just adding some information.
I really want to be vegan, and try to eat little dairy, and what i have i try to ensure it is organic. But I know it is not good enough. It is just so damn difficult to be a vegan unless you have hours a plenty to do all home cooking from scratch each and every day thus avoiding using animal products. There is so little out there for vegans. Hard enough being vegetarian in this society, but at least awareness and thus facilities have improved a lot for the vegetarian lifestyle. I hope this will soon be the case for veganism. I really really admire and respect vegans. |

| Fresh Poster | on 08:49PM at May 24th, 2008 I am a Christian and know the Bible does support meat eating, but God never intended animals to be so severely abused and mistreated, living miserable lives in factory farms. That's why I don't eat meat. I also found this cool site, Jesusveg.com :-) |
| Fresh Poster | on 12:06PM at Jun 3rd, 2008 I'm thinking of heading in that direction. The problem is that I live in a town where the selection of meat alternatives (like tofu, hummus, fake meat, tempeh, etc...) at the supermarkets has been shrinking rather than growing in the last few years, and I am already getting tired of eating the same things all the time. Most restaurants have a couple things I can eat as a vegetarian, but as a vegan, I'm afraid I'd be limited to the garden salad. I can't live on salad. |
| Fresh Poster | on 07:44PM at Jun 30th, 2008 Thank you all for replying!
I'm going to slowly introduce soy milk, cheese, and egg-free options into my diet. It IS very difficult in a household that eats meat and has never even considered vegan cooking.
Personally, there is guilt associated with eating vegetarian and not vegan. It seems almost hypocritical to me (supporting an industry that participates in animal cruelty and death). Because it is a difficult change for me (someone who eats a lot of dairy products), the process is slow.
I have SO much respect for vegans (their willpower and choice to change). You are what I work to be! |
| Fresh Poster | on 10:24AM at Jul 17th, 2008 I dont see much point in becoming a vegan.
I live in australia and we have some pretty decent farms. I mean, i'm not naive, and you'd be surprised how much goes on right under our noses, but there's alot of protection for our famous farms. It would be different if i were to live in America, i definately wouldn't drink the milk there (boy do i know about the dairy farms in america.. if you knew about all the blood and puss and bacteria in it you wouldn't want to either. in fact if you guys like i can post you a nice little article about that)
but in the end, cows need to be milked or their udders will get infected and painful. the machines are clean and dont hurt them. and i simply couldn't life without milk, because dairy and potatoes are the base of my entire diet and i would starve without them!
chickens need to lay eggs anyway. theres no chance of any life in them, and i buy RSPCA free range eggs so i dont have to worry about their lifestyle.
Vegans are so strict, there are so many things that you can't eat, and i am a rather poor vegetarian so i would probably end up just living off carbs and i would get very sick. |
| Fresh Poster | on 06:20AM at Aug 9th, 2008 Just because of eggs really hun...can do everything else but...well...i 'love' mushroom omlettes and, as far as I know, you can't not make an omlette without an egg...would love to proved otherwise...

| Fresh Poster | on 03:30PM at Aug 23rd, 2008 I have been vegetarian for a couple of years now.. not ever thinking to become vegan. Because I still live at home, and my parents are not big supporters. But a couple months ago..I thought I would give being vegan a try. Yes its hard at times, but I already feel better about myself.
If I don't succeed as a vegan, I will go back to being a vegetarian. |
| Fresh Poster | on 05:24PM at Jul 21st, 2009 Human females 'lay' eggs, would you eat them and keep
the woman in a 'hen' house.Cows will produce milk as
long as their eggs are fertilised, otherwise they would
probably live a happy and contented long life. |
| Fresh Poster | on 06:40AM at Aug 17th, 2009 I turned Vegan at the very start of the year, and stayed that way for 5 months, now I'm a Vegetarian. Reason for switch: Convenience. |
| Fresh Poster | on 10:31PM at Sep 19th, 2009 I believe if you are devout enough to the cause, becoming a vegan shouldn't be too difficult.
When I became a vegetarian 6 years ago, I didn't feel like I had to make any sacrifices. The meats that I used to eat now seem completely repulsive.
If you want to be a vegan, yes, it will be a lot of work, simply because you have to buy a lot of specialized food products.
I don't feel the need to become vegan because I personally believe it is okay to use the by products of animals. My only problem is with the treatment of the animals while obtaining these products, so my crusade is against the industries and processes, not the products themselves. Some say this is counterproductive, the only way to end the cruelty is to not consume animal byproducts at all. I disagree with that, though, and we all choose to fight the fight in our own way.

| Fresh Poster | on 01:25PM at Sep 23rd, 2009 I also watched a video on the egg industry just 23 days ago....I am still new at this but I have decided to be vegan ( I have had no dairy, eggs, or meat for 23 days)because by watching the video, what I saw on that was not right...how do we as humans think we can do that to another live creature! They bleed and breath just as we do...I just decided it was not right. We take their babies and do such horrble things to these innocent baby animals, I do not much believe god intended on humans doing what they do to these animals, I may be one person and my family may think I have gone nuts(because I ate meat all time) but I guess every little bit counts... | |
