    I Find It Very Cruel

My cat has all her claws.  I've had her since she was a kitten & now she is 13 years old.  I worked with her a lot to get her used to scratching on her scratching post, which she mostly does.  On the rare occasion she causes a problem, it's not a big deal since she hardly ever...

A Cat We Used To Take Care Of...

A long time ago, we used to take care of cats that were strays and probably dumped where we lived. There was this one that was grey and was nervous at first. She was declawed in the front, so she couldn't defend herself. Instead, she would bite if she needed to do so, so I ended...

Every since a lad, I always loved cats.  In 1997, when I got my cat, I didn't know any better.  He was scratching our furniture and we decided to have him declawed.  I regret it at 100%.  Declawing is brutal.  I would never do it again.  (I...

When I was a teenager, we had our cat Baxter declawed. At the time, I didn't know how an onychectomy worked - I naively thought it was like clipping claws, but more permanent. What I did know was that Baxter was miserable. Usually a Joe Cool kind of guy who strutted around the...

I just equate it to cutting off our fingernails.

I don't know much about the process I admit but I always cringe when I hear that a cat is dewclawed. I could never do that to one of my cats. They don't even do anything with their claws. If they swipe at you they're trying to defend themselves because they're scared and you're...

There are many bad things about cat declawing

and I am totally against this sort of abuse. Cats and humans have hand/paw characteristics that are very alike- three joints. Our last joint, with the fingernail that grows out of the skin, is slightly different from the cat. The cat's "nail" actually grows straight out of bone...

When you take away a cat's claws you take away

its means of survival. Sure it might seem reasonable if the cat is locked away inside, but what happens when it gets out? If the cat has no access to human food or cat food laid out for it it would have to hunt. It can't without its claws and would starve to death. You wouldn't...

away from it? Unless it is strictly a house cat you have no reason to declaw it. "Oh well it scratches the furniture when its inside boo hoo hoo" buy a damn scratching post. If you can afford to declaw your cat you can afford a scratching post.

I am against cat declawing to the maximum.

I think one of my main reasons is because I view it as the cat's self defense when it is outdoors. It has dogs to contend with and other predators such as us. More people than actual animals killing each other now in days, its more people killing every single thing out there. So...

nor neutered, I believe that stripping an animal of his organs is cruel and inhumane. Sure, my couch is scratched to shreds, but at least he has a way to defend himself. And contrary to what the vet says, training him to stop spraying is a piece of cake.
