What Made Me Decide to Be An Emt

I've been an EMT for 10 years now and a volunteer member of my local Ambulance company for 11 years. I was inspired by my Dad, who is a career Paramedic for our town Ambulance Company. He has been involved with the fire department/EMS since he was a teenager. He started out as a...

Well, not an EMT... I'm a MRT,

which stand for medical response technician. I work on an ambulance and help EMTs, and I'm also a medic at a camp during the summer.

Earlier this year I went through a three month

long training course to become a state certified EMT. Myself and my fellow EMT students had a 1,200 page text book plus rotations and we also had practicals (splinting, KEDS device, etc) that we had to be proficient with. I was so elated when I finally passed my state board...

quick grievance: my state just updated the EMS

protocols. I feel like the people who make up the protocols and guidelines need to work in the field more and get out from behind their desk.

    My Emt Story

I became an EMT because of the EMT's that tried (in vain) to save my mother. I've always been interested in medicine, and it seemed like a logical choice. Now i can't imagine doing anything else, even though I've only been doing it about 2 years, I work as an EMT everyday, and...

    Ems Humor

Three nurses are walking along the beach when they find an old lamp. One of the nurses rubs the lamp and out pops a genie! "For freeing me, I'll give each of you one wish," announces the genie. The first nurse says, "I want to be twice as smart as I am now, that way I'll be a...

    I'M An EMT

I'm expected to keep people alive until we get to the hospital and I make less money than many fast food managers. I help train nursing students, at the local college, in emergency care and still get called "Ambulance Driver" by current nurses. I've seen many cops in line in...

    I Am An Emt

I have worked for a private ambulance company in the city for about 4 months now and have seen some amazing things.  I remember during my training, I worked at a Trauma one hospital where I assisted in some pretty major procedures, including setting tibula/fibula...

I Am Still Certified But No Longer Working

I was first certified as an EMT-B in my county 7 years ago. I became nationally certified 3 years ago.  I have worked as an ER Tech and on an ambulance crew (ALS).  I recently left the field but my certification is still current.  I haven't decided if I'm going to keep it...

Recently had a patient in an MVC jammed up

under the dash. As the FD worked on flapping the roof and rolling the dash, he kept saying he couldn't feel his legs, he was going to die, etc.. He even asked us to cut his legs off if it would save his life. Once loaded an en route to trauma facility, really all we could nail...

I Want To Be An Emt

I think that being an Emergency Medical Technician would be an ideal occupation for me. I love public service and I love to assist others in need. I'm also a very action-oriented person and I have heard much about how EMT's get a rush from rushing a patient to the hospital and...

One of the worst feelings in the world is

knowing your patient is dead, but having to run the call anyway and halfway through, you start to think they're coming back, that maybe your efforts aren't in vain; perhaps if you do everything right, you can save them. But then you realize that no matter what you do, that...
