On my side of the pond the way it works is you put your name on a register if you want to donate. A recent survey showed that in the UK 70% of people would like to donate, but only 30% had actually got round to signing up.

I personally think it's best for those that have strong feelings about not being a doner to register, and for fatalities to otherwise give presumed consent - I'm not alone, we have a petition and there is now over 3,000 of us!

Would like to know other's thoughts on this, and if you're in the UK and feel the same way, please make your voice heard and sign http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Organ-Donation/

I fully support an opt-out system

The majority of people obviously would have no problem with their organs being used to save another person's life, in the event of their death. But the way the system is set up at the moment, not enough people actually go to the effort of signing up. No one needs their live when they're dead, yet the current system seems to be making it as difficult as possible to get enough people to become an organ donor. If someone has  a problem with their organs being used after they've died, it should be them who need to get themselves taken off the register, not the other way round.
