Only half Canadian on my mother's side.

Thanks to Mom's heritage I'd rather have real maple syrup than Mrs. Butterworth. Grandma also taught me that vinegar is really good on fries, especially if you're on a low sodium diet. Once in a while when Mom and Grandma have a conversation their old accents break through. It...

I have been many places around the globe.

Every time I return home, I am so much more appreciative of how free, progressive and tolerant Canada is. I am so glad I was born here. And I am so glad I am able to appreciate it.

Here is a test for my non Canadian friends.

How much of the following paragraph, full of Canadianisms, do yo understand?" β€œI’m going to collect the loonies and toonies out of my knapsack and head to the Beer Store for a two-four. On my way back, I’ll pick us up a double-double and some Timbits, then we can have...

who despises Canada although he lives in Canada (that moron)... He says that Canada is like a spoiled brat who hides cowardly behind America (US) when troubles happen. He says Canada steals from some many people yet he lives in a province belonging to Canada and gets the same...

May the maple syrup run free, the blue jays sing a pleasant song, the fireworks be bright, and the poutine be delicious! Happy Canada Day from us Aussies! :) And remind America how Canada invented basketball and French fries! :)

    Australian Definition of a Canadian

My niece in Australia sent me this.  I love this definition of a Canadian, and want to share it here with you:   "You probably missed it in the local news, but there was a report that someone in Pakistan had advertised in a newspaper an offer of a reward to...

    Anybody remember Bobby Gimby?

I remember 48 years ago my little town opened its first and only centennial swimming pool to his song. Ten years later a pretty young lady from a far away city was hired on to lifeguard that pool. Within the year she became my Dear Wife.

Just walked out on my deck.

Nice and cool. The air smells of the ocean. It is peaceful. The neighbours rooster is doing his thing. Seagulls are crying. The hummingbirds are at the feeder. I have my coffee, everyone else is still asleep. I am a lucky man!!

    Our nation's capital,

mere hours away, was the scene of violence today. I was working in Michigan on 9/11, and all I could think of was getting back home to where things like this didn't happen. Sadly, as a country envied by a lot of the world, we have joined the ranks where this occurs. Fear is...

    Canadian, Eh?

When I lived overseas, I remember people asking me on a daily basis, 'where are you from?'. I always proudly answered 'Canada" to which they would ask 'So you live in an igloo and wear parkas?' SERIOUSLY??? I am always astonished at how little people from other countries know...
