    Lucky Find

I was on holiday in Pembrokeshire relaxing in the sand-dunes when I suddenly noticed this pair of beetles.  One was burrowing in the sand while the other one was doing a kind of frantic circular dance nearby.  Didn't take long for them to get together.  It was fascinating to...

WE PUT HER IN THE BIN

Today I have just been looking through our home videos as I was trying to get some more details for a story that I wrote earlier today And I came across a video, of our daughters playing at a working out on their bed, they were trying to bench press each other, as I had done this...

    Unusual Spider

When I was on holiday in Exmoor I came across this unusual spider. It was like a common brown speckled garden spider but it had a bright pale orange body with white spots on. I've never seen one like it before. Then a little further on in my walk I saw a long black beetle...

    Beautiful Shiny Green Insect

I spotted this beautiful insect sitting on a dandelion, and was struck by its lovely metallic green colour and the bulging shape of its legs.  Unfortunately I can't find it in my insect book.  I wonder what it is?

    Our Mini Beasts

We have some mini beasts where we live, some spiders, lizards and insects, and I have a basic philosophy, that is it can’t hurt us then we won’t hurt it, and over the years I have tried to teach my daughters this as well, we once had a very tiny jumping spider living in and...

    They Are Beautiful

When I am walking in the Summer I often stop to look at the little insects - they fascinate me.  I sometimes wonder what it would be like to be so tiny that a blade of grass towers over your head, and what the world must look like to them.  I am amazed at how ...

    Glasswing Butterfies

I went to  visit a butterfly farm last week.  It was amazing, as soon as I walked through the door I was in their world.  Hundreds of glasswing butterflies were flying around me, as well as many other species.  I love the transparency of their wings.

    Ants

I find ants some of the most fascinating minibeasts of all. Just their communication system is amazing. They have a hierarchy too, and are ageist, sending out the oldest members of the community to the most dangerous places to collect food. I could study them for hours.

    What Is It?

Does anyone know what this minibeast is, and what all those yellow eggs belong to?  I found them on my Sorrel plant.
