    My maternal grandmother is French.

She was born in Dax, in the early Fifties. She ran away to Paris where she first met my grandfather. They married three years after they first met, and their romance is inspirational.

During the Civil War one of my forebears,

a Frenchman, came to fight with the Internationale, and somehow he got involved with our family, marrying one of our daughters and so French blood mingled with ours. It also happened with our Irish ancestry.
