Many are familiar with the old Mash series with Allen Laden as an etcentric M.D. in a remote U.S. military outpost in Korea. He and many of the rest of the medical team had a strange poignant sense of humor. But major Hulahan was the lead counter part, playing her lines strait. Klinger added levity with his many attempts to get out of the military by claiming to be either gay or crazy.

Their portrayal of humor may at times be a little over the top but the core truth is there.  Those who work daily with the pathos of life and death have learned to use humor to gain balance so that they can keep working to save lives.

Much like the weary doctors, nurses and paramedical professionals portrayed on the set for Mash, our nation's Mothers, nurses, and teachers are always in the trenches of humanities greater difficulties.  They are the footsoilders that rarely gain recognition.

Did you know that the Month of May has "Nurses Recognition Day" in it? How appropriate to place this day in the same month as Mothers' Day and Memorial Day.

Anyone out there have a story to tell about an angel of mercy?
