    Physically, And Mentally

My Mom has cancer, but she also has dementia (possibly Alzheimer's). We aren't sure which will get her first. The Mom I knew no longer exists, however, regardless of  which illness she succumbs to.

I'll Miss You So Much, Mom.

Two years ago in the fall of '07 was probably the most turbulent time of my life. This is when I had to face my mom's mortality. In late October, they found blood clots in her leg. Late November, she had a seizure in her leg.. had tests done.. found out she had brain cancer and...

    I Lost My Mom

I had just turned 12 years old. Mom got sick a month before my birthday. She had been sick  6 months earlier, and it was cancer; but, she went through surgery and was ok. They told her there was a 50/50 chance the cancer could spread; but mom was ok. One day towards the end of...

Losing Her to the Pain of Reality

I'm not losing her because she is dying. I'm losing her to the pain of reality. She is divorcing my Dad and now lives with my Gran. Every time I see her, she looks really tired and sad. It hurts to see her that way. When you talk to her, she always seems to be somewhere else. I'm...

I Had Hoped This Day Would Never Happen.... I'M Sorry, Mom

" The right thing to do and the hard thing to do are usually the same." Steve Maraboli Yesterday was a day I almost couldn't bear. My heart broke as I walked my little Mother up the walk to the care home. In truth, I had even wished she would die in her sleep rather than live...

If Only This Could Be Simple

I am not losing my mother to a physical disease, like cancer. Sometimes I even imagine that would be easier. I am losing her to mental illness. Her diagnosis is manic depression, worsened with post partum after each of her four kids. She's turned to suicide. Spending months in...
