craftykat wrote on 04:21PM at Mar 5th, 2012 I have dealt with Bipolar for a long time. I've been married to my bipolar husband for 25 years so I've done a lot of research on it. Here's what I've found: Everyone kept telling me it was hereditary but what I've found out is that it is caused by some kind of brain trauma. It can be done at birth, or through some kind of traumatic situation, child abuse or a car accident where there has been a head injury. My husbands mother and brother have it, and his grandfather before him...but they all came from traumatic upbringings and there was nobody there to help them through. Now with my children, they have all been worried that they will get what their dad has...but i tell them they will be okay, they don't show any visible signs. They know Bipolar inside out and backwards. I have always been there to help them through each traumatic experience. I'm interested to know what other people know about the illness. I personally do not believe it has anything to do with genetics. In fact I refuse to believe it! I've seen no evidence of it. The brain trauma reason makes more sense to me. How about you?
