Here are a few tips...

Dont listen to Shai everyone. Thats a bunch of baloney about the Ketowah Band not being registered. They're called the United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians and they are a Federally Recognized Cherokee Tribe based in Oklahoma. ( ONE OF ONLY THREE )
Each individual who walked the Trail had to be in Oklahoma at a certain time otherwise they didn't get registered, they didn't get their ration the feds gave them. The Keetoowah Band was federally recognized in 1905, and the trail was in 1838.
For the ones that are of Cherokee heritage and whose ancestors didn't enroll, there are a number of other ways to prove this. The reasons that most people can't prove their Cherokee heritage is because there is no Cherokee Heritage there to begin with.
