I Sometimes Wish the Internet Was a Bit Less Us-centric

I suppose it is unavoidable when the internet was created by Americans! I'm grateful that they created it, but I would also like to meet more people from other areas of the world. Also, like other members, I don't always want people to assume I am American. Too many times...

I'm very English am pleased to have lots of

friends in America. I find the difference between your English and PROPER English very interesting. One thing that is very noticeable on both sides of our Atlantic Ocean is the apparent ignorance about the correct use of "learnt" and "learned". Used correctly, learnt is...

    So please don't ask me

why i'm 'up at this hour'. I get asked this so often. Not everyone is in the same timezone! Not everyone on the internet is American! And yes, if i say I am at school during the week, it's actually winter in some parts of the world!

Much as I have a lot of very dear American friends here who I love dearly I am not American, do not live in America and have a very Irish accent and extremely pale skin to prove it. In a number of my stories it is automatically assumed I live in America, or when I write an...

    I Live In the Us

But I'm Ghanaian and very proud of it. Even though I've lived here for 8 years I still think it takes a certain type of person to live in this country. It's just not for me I guess. My home is elsewhere I guess.

When I went to the Philippines,

several people assumed I was from America (I'm Canadian). I had to explain to some kids that Canada was the country above the US and they were just confused. Can't say I blame them, though.

    Sometimes people comment

or answer my questions with american slang/pop culture expecting that I will understand and when I don't some of them think I'm being difficult or acting dumb. I'm not from america and yes I can google, but don't assume I think or act or speak the same way as an american.

    Americans are so serious,

dramatic and a sense of humour has not been passed to them. This place is full of kick off always involving a dramatic American. Can you not just chill and learn what a dry sense of humour is.

As a white guy living in China a lot of Chinese

people assume I'm American. They seem to think white people only live in the USA. Some people do actually take the time to ask me where I'm from rather than just assuming but they're the minority. I'm not surprised they can't tell the difference though to be fair. The British...
