I Am Slightly Agoraphobic

Personal Stories, Advice, and Support 87 People

There was a lengthy span of weeks

that passed recently before I truly knew I was lost somewhere in this limbo state of agoraphobia and anxiety stress about my financial situation. It doesn't particularly become clear to you, immediately, in your thought patterns. You just know, you'd rather stay where you feel...

First I Loose The Keys, Then I Loose My Mind...

Many years now I've struggled with bouts of moderate to severe Agoraphobia.  It feels like I'm locked in by a paralyzing fear of social interaction with others and I keep losing the keys to let myself out.  The longer I go without getting out, the worse it gets as I...

    It's definitely only slightly.

But I don't feel comfortable when leaving the house and being a fairly long distance from it, at least not without certain items, mostly a bottle of water and a cereal bar (or something similar) in case I get badly anxious. And often a pack of cigarettes help too. I feel...

I went out today! Not very far,

and nothing spectacular achieved, but no panic attacks and I did it. Also had to go out Saturday, and managed it, but it was pretty unpleasant all round. But I did it.

I have had three phases of agoraphobia,

each as a result of stress. firstly as a teenager, secondly after my Dad's death and now as a result of being forced to move house. I keep thinking it's getting better when it gets worse again :(

I went out today, just to the bank

but I had no money to pay for parking so I had to park in the free car park which was further away and walk. Thankfully I managed it, no panic attacks, job done and I am home safe again, but so emotionally drained I want to lie down and go to sleep now.

    I Don't Like It

I do go into "hiding" every once in a while and I'm fine with that.  It usually doesn't last long.  Maybe it's the weather, maybe it's the lack of friends in this town that makes me feel like staying inside?  I have to do something about it though...
