I'm sure us kids just about sent our parent to alcoholism!! They were probably waiting for our bed times to come around so they could open a bottle (or roll a joint) and let the day unwind.

I am positive you are not a child of an alcoholic. An alcoholic or drug addicted person does not wait for their children to go to bed to drink or roll their wacky tobaccy

My dad waited until I went to bed. Actualy, I wasn't aware he was an alcoholic until the age of 7

Wow.  Well I'm glad that your parents waited.  Mine never did.  In fact, they would start drinking at 6 am and drink til the night was well gone.  Man, I feel cheated.

no waiting here.  I would come down the stairs at 7am to get ready for school and there was my dad pouring a glass of vodka
My mood: very geeky

Yeah, my dad didn't wait, either. He sometimes picked my sister and me up from school drunk in the early afternoon! ugh.

Shoot, neither of my parents waited to drink or pop pills, hell I was the one who went back and forth to a  house of a friend of the familys up the street to trade pain pills. As for drinking, noone in my family tried to hide it.

I agree, my dad drank even when he was driving to pick me up from school. But it isn't the triggers (what I might do that may make him upset) that make him drink. They're just excuses to drink because he has an addiction. At the same time, I'm not going to say that the guy who drinks every night after the family's in bed is not an alcoholic, cus there are varying levels of addiction; he can just put it off till later.
