I Can't Donate Blood

Personal Stories, Advice, and Support 170 People

I went to the Blood Drive with my friends,

but I couldn't give blood because I don't weigh enough, apparently. I was the only one in my group of friends who didn't give blood. So I consoled myself with free snacks and a free T-shirt.

I have gone many times to donate blood - my blood type is O negative. But I am anemic always and am also bipolar so take meds to control that - and both of these factors mean that I have always been rejected. However I still get mail from time to time asking me if I will go and...

    Well. I can't donate

for three reasons. One: I don't weigh enough. Two: I have thalassemia, it's a weird genetic blood disorder. Basically, I have anemia. So my blood cells are kinda weird :P no one wants that lol. And three: I'm REALLY afraid of needles xP

I hate that when you go to donate blood that they ask your sexual orientation. Just because I'm gay doesn't mean i'm not safe in the matter of getting  myself and my partner checked. We both know we are clean we don't have aids and it kills me that just because I'm a lesbian...
